• IDPs

During June – August 2014, more than 500,000 people have beendisplaced from Ninewa governorate (Mosul city, Ninewa plain,Zummar and Sinjar areas) toward Duhok governorate because of theconflict, violence and area occupation by ISIS. This could beconsidered as one of the largest internally displacement in theworld. This massive displacement has created a severe humanitariancrisis exceeded the capabilities of Local Government, UN agenciesand other humanitarian actors to cover the basic needs of thedisplaced people. It is worth to mention that the majority of thedisplaced people lives in cities, towns and residential complexes inDuhok province, where they enjoy all the municipal and socialservices of water, electricity, housing, security, fuel, traffic, shops,cleaning services and garbage collection same as the citizens of theprovince.

• Syrian Refugees

More than 2.5 million Syrians have fled their homes since the outbreak of civil war in March 2011, taking refuge in the neighboring countries Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey, and Jordan. Among the total refugees population, there was more than 248,000 Syrian refugees registered in Iraq, with 97 per cent in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
