Several notes1. For A2 level, users are given the option of writing by hand or by using a digital device.
on A1 level, writing activities are based on hand-writing. However, the EBCL project suggests that from A2 level on, writing tasks may be achieved by either handwriting OR with the help of a digital keyboard, as the focus lies on the communicative function of thetasks and we should take into account the widespread use of computers and other electronic devices to type Chinese in the real life.

Several notes3. By the extracts that we will show, you can see that we
have kept unchanged quite a big part of CEFR descriptors. That means we consider that CEFR descriptors are valid for Chinese as for other languages.

Several notesWritten production is the most difficult activity for all languages
because of the difficulty of writing the words without mistakes. The tasks presented by writing descriptors are modest: “can write simple isolated phrases” in A1 and « can write simple linked sentences » n A2 and the concerned domains are limited to the family or the daily life areas. So it’s realisable to accomplish them in Chinese also with a reasonable amount of characters and words. The main point is: “what is a reasonable amount of characters and words.

Several notes4. Considering the specificity of Chinese writing, we
propose a threshold of characters for each level:
250-300 characters for A1
500-600 characters for A2
For written production:
About 400 words for A1
About 900 words for A2
