Russia is rich in monuments of

culture, reflecting its long

history. Our cultural and

historical heritage is a

spiritual, economic and social

capital of irreplaceable value,

which, along with natural

resources is the main reason

to be proud of the motherland.

The legacy in many ways

forms the mentality, approves

the continuity of human

values and keeps traditions

up. Preserving the cultural

heritage is the basis for

further development of the

society, it is the duty of every

citizen of the country.

Architecture

Saint Basil’ Cathedral is one of the most famous monuments, mention of which immediately makes you think about Russia. It was built around 1560 and still fascinates eyes and takes breathes away of visitors who came to look at this wonder from around the world.

The Legend says that Ivan the Terrible blinded the architect so that he could not re-create the masterpiece elsewhere.

The building is shaped as a flame of a bonfire rising into the sky, a design that has no analogues in Russian or World architecture.

"it is like no other Russian building. Nothing similar can be found in the entire millennium of Byzantine tradition from the fifth to fifteenth century ... a strangeness that astonishes by its unexpectedness, complexity and dazzling interleaving of the manifold details of its design."

Architecture

The Peterhof Museum Complex is series of palaces and gardens laid out on the orders of Peter the Great and planned to be a residence of a sea king. This Palaces-ensemble sometimes referred as the ”Russian Versailles” and recognized as a UNESCO World Herirage Site.

The Peterhof Palace is one of the most popular museums not only in Russia, but in the whole world. As a former residence of the Russian monarchs, Peterhof brings the finest achievements in national and international culture.

The Peterhof Museum Complex is rightfully regarded as the “capital of fountains”. Included in the state register of most valuable cultural objects of the Russian Federation, Peterhof now bears the proud title of one of the”Seven Wonders of Russia”

MusicWorld classical music is unthinkable without the work of Russian composers. Russia is a great country with talented people and its cultural heritage, has always been among the leaders of world progress and the arts, including music. Russian school of composers, the traditions of which was followed by Soviet and current Russian schools started in the 19th century with composers, who united European art music with Russian folk tunes, linked together European style  and Russian spirit.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is perhaps the greatest Russian composer of the 19th century, raised to unprecedented heights Russian musical art. He is one of the most important composers of the classical music world.

Selecting something special of Tchaikovsky’s masterpieces is a difficult task, he has a few of equal important works in almost all genres - opera, ballet, symphony, chamber music such as Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Eugene Onegin, The Nutcracker.

Poetry

The founders of the Russian literary language are Pushkin, Karamzin, Gogol. But before them there were many outstanding writers who created beautiful works. Rich heritage of Russian literature owes to such creators of literature as Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Lermontov and others.

Science

Scientists and inventors in our country engaged in the development of natural and exact sciences, have made their invaluable contribution to the treasury of world heritage. Among them are such famous personalities as Lomonosov, Mendeleyev, Korolev, Pirogov and others.

The first publication of the widely recognized periodic table was made by Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869. He developed his table to illustrate periodic trends in the properties of the then-known elements. Mendeleev also predicted some properties of then-unknown elements that would be expected to fill gaps in this table. Most of his predictions were proved correct when the elements in question were subsequently discovered.

Mendeleev's periodic table has since been expanded and refined with the discovery or synthesis of further new elements and the development of new theoretical models to explain chemical behavior.

Science

Yuri Gagarin was the first human to journey into outer space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on 12 April 1961. Gagarin became an international celebrity, and was awarded many medals and titles, including Hero of the Soviet Union, the nation's highest honour.

I think each person should pay tribute to someone who literally changed the history of the humankind forever… People like Gagarin deserve to be remembered for their great deeds, and although it is not their achievement alone, I still think they must be honored as a symbol of immense struggle, accomplishment and sacrifice made by our race - no matter the country.

Being a part of human culture and a storage of historical memory, the cultural heritage of Russia is an effective resource for the formation and development of the individuality, society, ethnic groups. It includes pieces of the multifaceted historical experience, which is essential for every person in modern world, allowing to trace the inextricable chain-time, connecting the ancient layers of history with the present day, as “present is made on the basis of the historical past, the impact of which we feel today”
