2. What the film says:
The film explains that Generation Y are digital learners.
Majority of teachers do not use adequate digital teaching/learning opportunities for students. 63% do not let students use technology to create something new. While only 14% do, but only once a week.
Digital learning engages students as they are 21st century learners who use technology for a large percentage of things they do.
As students are growing up into a digital world, students need adequate technical knowledge
to obtain jobs in our digital world.
3. How It Says It:
Presented in a film to the audience with various digital technologies acknowledged throughout.
Explains how involved all students, of all ages are with technology by the use of flash cards explaining how much they use technology.
Demonstrates that students are concerned with their future through the use of statistics, estimations and unanswered
questions affecting their futures.
Eg careers.
4. Good Features
The use of flash cards throughout
the scenes to gain the audiences
attention.
Students of all ages, ethnicities and
genders were included in the film.
Personal information of students to inform the audience the importance of digital technologies to students.
These features of the film are important features that students can take into consideration when creating their own films.
5. Useful Information
The film acknowledges that students prefer digital learning and that teachers need to recognise this so students have the opportunity to create using many useful methods including film making.
However, the film informs the
audience that students only read
for 2 Hrs per week. This recognises
that there needs to be a balance
created within the classroom and teaching strategy with consideration of incorporation of technology.
6. Relates to Syllabus
Vision of K-12 Students. This film relates to PDHPE content, but in a negative way. PDHPE syllabus refers to life long physical activity and ways to prevent childhood obesity. However, key findings used in PDHPE content is that students are to reduce screen time as a prevention of overweight/obesity. This film emphasises how much technology students are using.
This film does relate to the PDHPE
syllabus as it links into skill
outcomes of communication.
7. Forbidden
This film is a narrative which is a story of an older lady, incompetent of looking after herself and is under care from her daughter and granddaughter. Gran, tries to escape the house to visit her prince charming.
8. How?
This short film uses a variety of camera angles and shots. The various shots are used effectively to portray important features of the film.
Close up on Grans slippers which emphasises incapability by showing of type clothes worn in public.
Low angle shot of policeman to represent his authority when returning Gran.
Close up shots on Gran and granddaughters facial expressions which illustrates the actors feelings to the audience.
The traffic filmed in front of Gran in the shot was used to explain the risk when Gran escapes to visit her friend.
9. Relates to Syllabus
The film Forbidden, is directly related to the PDHPE syllabus in multiple ways.
The film demonstrates types of family make ups, eg in the film Forbidden, the characters involved are a 3 person family, made up of three generations of women.
Forbidden, also portrays a character with a disease and emphasises many symptoms.
Not only is the film related in content,
it is also skill based related,
includingcommunication,
interacting andplanning.
10. Quality Teaching Model
Quality teaching model is a crucial part of teaching. This model involves: Quality learning environment, intellectual quality and significance.
Incorporating film making into teaching strategies improves intellectual
quality of learning by providing
authentic learning for students.
11. Related to Subject Area
Technology, especially filmmaking, relates to my subject area, PDHPE, by being integrated into the skills outcomes. It is linked to:
* Communication effective communication
through electronicmedia (film). Communicating
Students ideas through the use of creating a film.
* Interacting by working in groups, gaining the
ability to perform various roles and common goal of
the group. (Process of making the film) Many important roles when making a film and important goals to be accomplished.
* Planning is associated with setting goals, priorities, manage resources and time, and monitor performance.(factors contributing to making a film)
* Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).Use simulation software to make choices and decisions as a member of a team. This section described in ICT is where film making can be referred to. There are many roles when creating a film and a team environment is useful to be used by students.
12. Usefulness
The film Forbidden, would be a useful film to present to students as it had many useful film techniques and shots recorded within.
Vision of K-12 Students Today, is a film which can demonstrate to students that film is an effective way to portray a message. Students should have the opportunity to create films for assessments as components of film making are demonstrated in skill outcomes.
