Page 2: Presentation1

Simple masthead – Suggests more sophisticated/mature readership

Green/black/white colour theme – Again reiterates sophistication

Main shot/central image– young black man, fashionable clothing.

Mid shot to show his clothes

Clothing fits with colour scheme

Bar code – fits conventions of magazine

Simple fonts used

stylish

Allows us to see the textbooks – connotations of students- students will immediately relate to it

Plugs include semantic fields that give connotations of students e.g.. Repetition of “campus” – highlights stories that immediately relate to the audience

Audience are clearly identified/ represented through central image (fashionable students)

Page 3: Presentation1

Graphic feature – Hints at what is inside

Central Image – Quite recognisably an American Football player – Establishes audience immediately

Buzz words – “No. 1 source”

Masthead – “college” relates to target audience immediately

Colour scheme (white) matches that of the central image and of the Plugs

Simple colours attract the right age range of target audience (16+ students) with mature colour scheme

Bar code – very obvious/simple but meets conventions of magazines; making it a crucial feature

Mode of address here if very simple – including bullet points and short sentences

Addresses target audience who are predominantly sports fans and subsequently not looking for a high literacy levelled magazine

(suggested by the title “sporting news” and Central Image)

Page 5: Presentation1

Anchorage – page numbers juxtaposed to the graphic features so that the audience relate the two and know where to find each story.

Header informing reader that is the contents page – following the conventions of a magazine

Main image is larger than the rest of them – Most important story (usually would have been of someone/something recognisable/ relating to the cover)

The typography of the headline is different (larger and it bold) to description – Audience attention drawn to the headlines.

All of the text boxes are evenly spread out and all the pages content is in line (including the images.) This gives it a sophisticated appearance

Page 6: Presentation1

Alternative layout (slanted headings and pictures) make it more pleasing to read and give it an appealing look.

Strict colour scheme (black contrasted with whites/yellows) fit the theme of the images – and presumably the magazine – of cities.

More important stories are headed and contain more information on them too – greater importance

Graphic features juxtaposed to the headings inform the reader that they are related

Although the layout is slightly diverse the headings and features are still specifically lined and spaced equally apart to give it a mature/smart/proffessional look.

Page 8: Presentation1

Buzz words such as “exclusive” and “#1” to gain attention of target audience and stand out.

Bar code – fitting the conventions of a magazine front cover

Main themes and buzz words in a bigger font so they stand out

Semantic fields relate to the genre of the magazine “identity” “Be yourself” etc.

Masthead is in a square (challenging the usual expectations) making it more alternative and individual/ easily recognisable

Almost acting as a logo

Central image is a mid shot (as seen in research) allows reader to see the models clothed and style – fitting the theme of the magazine

Page 9: Presentation1

Main graphic feature – reflecting the theme on front cover

Headings and information all in line with spaced in-between (as seen on research) to give it a more mature/stylish look and make it easier to read and target the correct audience.

Anchorage of the page numbers next to the headings of each story to make clear they are related (As seen on reserach)

A more alternative layout to fit the fashionable theme.

Colour scheme will be blacks/whites/reds to reflect that of the cover
