HISTORY
The traffic lights in India are extensively used since 1980’s.
During this period the supply voltage needed to operationalize the traffic lights was 240V.
This voltage was fed to sodium vapour lamps and the electric poles used were made of galvanised iron or steel.
PRESENT SYSTEM• During 1990’s the advent of the advancement in
the technology led to use the LEDs and down counters to manage the traffic.
• In this advanced system the step-down transformer.
• This reduced dependency of voltage and managing the traffic became simple, easy to use, and reliable.
• The present system is operated automatically during peak hours of time and in some populated areas it is still operated manually.
DRAW BACKS OF THE PRESENT SYSTEM• In-built programmed micro-controller.• Works according to peak hour basis.• Fails to sense and gauge the actual traffic density.• Waste of time.• Accidents

PROPOSED METHOD Vibrations: Vibrations are produced by the vehicles moving
on road near the traffic signal.
Vibration sensors: Vibration sensors are paved under a layer of road at certain distance away for the traffic pole to sense vibrations. The vibrations produced by the vehicle movement is sensed by these sensor and the actual number of vehicles passing these sensors are taken into count which is an analog signal.
Analog to Digital converter: Analog to Digital converter converts the analog signal into digital format which carries the information as how many vehicles have actually crossed the sensors.
CONTINUED…Micro-controller: Micro-controller is programmed
to allot the number of seconds required to pass the vehicles from the traffic jam based on the information received from A/D converter.
Timer: Timer is used to display the number of seconds to allow the vehicles to pass the green signalas per the information obtained from micro-controller.
LED: LED’s are red, green and amber used to show the working on the basis of information given by the timer.

APPLICATIONS• The project is mainly used in the traffic signals • It is a boon to the automobiles so that there are
many advantages
ADVANTAGES• Avoids signal jumping accidents• Very low power consumption.• Avoids waste of time.• It provides the easy access in the traffic light• Low cost to design the circuit• Convenient to handle.
