The Aycliffe Plant has benefited from significantinvestment in automation over the past 20 years.

We have over 450 robot applications at Aycliffe withthe 1st installation taking place in the earlier 1980’s

Majority of our applications are welding robots

Why Robotics

• TYPICAL APPLICATIONS• HANDLING AND MATERIAL MOVEMENT

• MACHINING CENTRES

• PAINT PLANTS

• PRESS MACHINES

• INSPECTION OPERATIONS

• WELDING APPLICATIONS

• LASER APPLICATIONS

• INTEGRATE INTO WORK CELLS

Why Robotics

• COST EFFECTIVE• RETURN ON CAPITAL CAN BE WITHIN 12-18 MONTHS

• RELIABILITY• OVER 98% UPTIME

• WORK IN DIFFICULT AREAS• HIGH TEMPERATURES OR HOSTILE ENVIRONMENTS

• ACCURATE• REPEATABLE

REQUIREMENTS

• LINE OR CELL DESIGN• INITIALLY REQUIRES SPECIALIST SUPPLIERS

• SKILLS CAN BE ACQUIRED AND DEVELOPED IN HOUSE –  BECOMING MORE AFFORDABLE

 –  BOUNDARIES ARE BROKEN DOWN

• SKILLED TECHNICIANS• INSTALLATION

• PROGRAMMING

• LINE SUPPORT/MAINTENANCE

• SPARES ARE EXPENSIVE

OPPORTUNITIES

• SOFTWARE• SIMULATION

• OFF LINE PROGRAMMING

• INTEGRATION –  WITH OTHER EQUIPMENT/ PROCESSES (SAP/MARS)

• DUE TO SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT YOU CAN

 –  DEVELOP AUTOMATED MAINTENANCE

• APPLICATIONS• OPTIONS ARE LIMITLESS IN TERMS OF APPLICATIONS

 –  TYPE/SIZE/WEIGHT

RISKS

• DEPENDANCY ON OEM• TOO MANY UPDATES - SOFTWARE

• SPARES AVAILABILITY / COST

• SKILLS REQUIRED

• SAFETY

• LIMITED FINANCIAL FLEXIBILITY – TIED UP FUNDS

HOWEVER• SUPPLY BASE IS STRONG

• CHOICES DO EXIST

• COST OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE
