Indications are that libraries’ websites or portals are well thought of by researchers

across the board

• Must be a Department project• Bottom up work needs to be sustained and

supported• Otherwise project dies and may need

forcing from the top• Must be seen to make a differece

Need to communicate with all the stakeholders

• Create a community and be inclusive• Who are they ?

- Faculty, high priority stakeholder

- Students – graudates, undergraduates

- Non academic staff, technical and admin

- Other interested parties

Establish their requirements

• All with different needs to be addressed• They shape the product• Balance between what is common and what is

different• Structured and non ad hoc (non who shouts

loudest)• Go out to them – surveys, workshop, RSS,

Blog….. and more. Most researchers lack any clear understanding of what the library is doing on their behalf.

Our vision – the bigger picture• Envision a situation where our webpage is a

model for the Faculty/University• Take on board the Challenges• - custodian of collections, subject-specialist,

teacher of information management skills - negotiate the purchase and facilitate the

delivery and access to information - web learning,VLE’s, VRC’s - web publishing, manage ir’s of digital

information - copyright issues
