Agriculture has been the main source of livelihood for generations but recent years have seen an increase in trade, industry and services. Tourism is also a growing industry

The Armed Forces which have been stationed in Bardusince 1898, are today the largest employer in the municipality.

Our community has «produced» both World Champions and Olympic Champions on skis, mostly in Nordic Combined
