Quality of the MaterialsEvery metal that are used here has some quality. The qualities are described below -
Light weight Metals are rigid that gives good strength Corrosion of metals are less than other
metals Better heat tolerance Better sustainability
Negligible Damage : Aircraft can fly with this type of damage. This means, the item is , but no need to repair, since the aircraft item being such damaged can work accordingly Repairable Damage:
When the item of the aircraft is damaged and has to be repaired. Without repair, that item unable to work Replacement Damage : If the aircraft item is affected by such damage, that cannot be repaired, then it has to be replaced by the new item by buying that from the company. Such damage is called replacement damage
Types of Damage
Repair Category
Caterogy A
• Permanent repair: After repairment it will work like new one. This is an emergency repair. Aircraft need an immediate action in this category. This type of repair need more days to be repaired.
Caterogy B
• Semi permanent repair : After repairement this will go under inspection.
Repairement will be checked after a definite time interval.
Caterogy C
• One-time flight repair : This type of repair restores a limited load-carrying ability to the damaged structure in order to fly the aircraft to a depot maintenance activity for a permanent repair.
TOOLS STORE
• Tools need to repair and maintain the aircraft is stored and supported by this store.
• Every tool are organized in a row according to their size.
• Every size of the tool is written aside of the tools. Sizes are defined in inches mainly
Tools store
Spanner/ Wrench
Moon SpannerJaw and Ring Spanner
Ring SpannerDouble sided jaw ring spanner
• A wrench (also called a spanner) is a tool used to provide grip and mechanical advantage in applying torque to turn objects—
• usually rotary fasteners, such as nuts and bolts—or keep them from turning.
Torque meter • There are times when definite
pressure must be applied to a nut or bolt as it is installed. In such cases a torque wrench must be used
• The torque wrench is a precision tool consisting of a torque indicating handle and appropriate adapter or attachments
• It measures the amount of turning or twisting force applied to a nut, bolt, or screw
HAMMERS AND MALLETS • Metal head hammers are usually sized
according to the weight of the head without the handle
• Occasionally it is necessary to use a soft-faced hammer, which has a striking surface made of wood, brass, lead, rawhide, hard rubber, or plastic. A mallet is a hammer-like tool with a head made of hickory, rawhide, or rubber
HAMMER
• The pliers used most frequently in aircraft repair work are the diagonal, needle nose, and duckbill. The size of pliers indicates their overall length, usually ranging from 5 to 12 inches
• Round nose pliers are used to crimp metal. They are not made for heavy work because too much pressure will spring the jaws, which are often wrapped to prevent scarring the metal
• Needle nose pliers have half round jaws of varying lengths. They are used to hold objects and make adjustments in tight places
• Duckbill pliers resemble a “duck’s bill” in that the jaws are thin, flat, and shaped like a duck’s bill
Pliers and Pliers-Type Cutting Tools
Pliers and Plier -Type Cutting Tools
Punches• Punches are used to locate centers for drawing
circles, to start holes for drilling, to punch holes in sheet metal, to transfer location of holes in patterns, and to remove damaged rivets, pins or bolts
• Solid or hollow punches are the two types generally used
Files• Most files are made of high-grade tool steels that
are hardened and tempered• manufactured in a variety of shapes and sizes• They are known either by the cross section, the
general shape, or by their particular useMost Commonly Used Files :• Hand Files• Mill Files• Square Files• Round or Rat Tail Files• Triangular and Three Square Files
FILE
Extension Bar Used with the socket to tighten the bolts
Speed handleUsed where there is curved section while reaching to the nuts and bolts
T handles Used when it needs to apply force from both sides of the handle. Easy to tighten of loosen by this type of handle
Hinge HandleUsed for flexibility of the handle
Magnetic BarUsed to clip any tool from unreachable place
INDUSTRIAL SECTION
Grinding MachineA grinding machine, often shortened to grinder, is any of various power tools or machine tools used for grinding, which is a type of machining using an abrasive wheel as the cutting tool
Aircraft Support Trestle
Aircraft Support Trestle is a kind of tool, which is used to lift up or carry something or any person, to work on the manufacture of an aircraft.
Sizzor Lift• A sizzor lift is a type of
platform that can usually only move vertically.
• The mechanism to achieve this is the use of linked, folding supports in a criss-cross "X" pattern, known as a pantograph (or scissor mechanism )
• The upward motion is achieved by the application of pressure to the outside of the lowest set of supports, elongating the crossing pattern, and propelling the work platform vertically
Axle Jack• Aircraft excel jacks allow maintenance
technicians or aircraft operators to lift the aircraft off the ground to perform maintenance checks, servicing, or inspections
• Excel Jacks have max lifting capacities measured in tons to meet different weights of aircraft
HANGER MAINTAINANACE
Hanger MaintenanceGround Servicing Equipment (GSE)
• Ground Servicing Equipment is the support equipment found at an airport, usually on the ramp, the servicing area by the terminal
• This equipment is used to service the aircraft between flights
• As the name suggests, ground support equipment is there to support the operations of aircraft whilst on the ground
DOLLIES
• used for the transportation of loose baggage's, over-sized baggage's, mail bags, loose cargo carton boxes, etc. between the aircraft and the terminal or sorting facility.
• fitted with a brake system which blocks the wheels from moving when the connecting rod is not attached to a tug
CHOCKS • Chocks are used to prevent an aircraft from moving
while parked at the gate or in a hangar. • placed in the front ('fore') and back ('aft') of the
wheels of landing gear• They are made out of hard wood or hard rubber. • chocks must be used in a pair on the same wheel and
they must be placed in physical contact with the wheel
WHEEL SHOP
Wheel Shop • Aircraft wheels are important for toeing,
take off, landing and taxing This shop takes care about all the problems related to wheels.
• At each inspection the tools goes through some NDT (Nondestructive test) that ensures its health to carry other flights.
• Each aircraft has wheels of different radius
Wheel Shop• The wheel shop ensures -
Strength of tires No leakage on tires Perfect shape of tires Repair of tire Replacement of tire Removal of tire Inspection of tire
Some Aircraft wheel companies - 1.Honey wheel2.Good reach3.Messier –Bugatti-Dowty

PAINT SHOP
Paint Shop• Aircraft paint shop is responsible of all type of
painting of the aircraft• These includes two type of painting –
Exterior Painting : Paints the exterior parts of the
aircraft Interior painting:
Paints the interior components of the aircraft
Paint ShopProperties of Aircraft paints : Slow evaporation rate allowing long working
times Water rinsable Non-flammable pH below 2 Safe on aluminium, aluminium alloys, copper,
mild steel and stainless steel
Exterior Painting ProcessUse sanding gun to
remove extra layers from fuselage
If corrosion or breakage on skin paint takes place use muskin tape to point
that place
Use paint remover on that
spot
Use scrapper to remove that corrosion or that paint from the
spot
Use a clear layer of paint on that
spot
Give time to dry that paint
give an extra layer of Anti corrosion chemical
over the paint
Take time to dry
Remove the muskin tape or the plastic
from the sides
Interior Painting ProcessRemove the corrosion
Spray Painting Process• Spray painting is a painting technique where a
device sprays a coating (paint, ink, varnish, etc.) through the air onto a surface
• The most common types employ compressed gas—usually air to atomize and direct the paint particles
• Air gun spraying uses equipment that is generally larger. It is typically used for covering large surfaces with an even coating of liquid
Paint Gun • Paint gun is used to paint the fuselage. It
helps to paint easily a huge area. The color that will be painted on the body is mixed with other chemicals and is mixer is poured in the gun
Components
• Airbrushes are hand-held and used instead of a brush for detailed work such as photo retouching, painting nails or fine art
• Spray guns can be either automated or hand-held and have interchangeable heads to allow for different spray patterns
• Single color aerosol paints cans are portable and easy to store
Components
Sanding gun and Paper Sanding gun is used for easy and quick sanding
