Home Base Parent & Student Portal
• What is it?– Home Base is a statewide student information system that
will replace NC WISE starting in the 2013-14 school year. – Home Base gives parents and students access to real-time
information including attendance, grades and assignments.– With Home Base, powered by Pearson’s PowerSchool
application, everyone stays connected: • Students stay on top of assignments, • Parents are able to participate in their child's progress &• Teachers can instantly share information from their grade book
with parents and students. – Families with multiple children can also set up their
accounts to view all of their children at one time, with one login.

Get Started
• Step 1: Contact your child’s school and ask for his/ her Access ID & Access Password– For confidentiality purposes, proof of identification
(ex. photo ID) is required.• Step 2: Create your account
– There are two ways to access the Home Base portal• Visit the PCS homepage, click Parent Portal from the
Community>Parents menu• OR type http://pender.powerschool.com/public in your
browser’s address bar

Parents: Create Your Account
•Enter the required information to set-up your account*
•Enter your child(ren)’s Name, Access ID & Access Password
•Click “Enter”
*Note: In order to maintain full compliance with the U.S. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), all users are required to access the Parent Portal using their own account. Student data is not accessible by anyone who does not have the authority to do so. Students have access to their own data, and any parent or legal guardian may also request access. If there is a situation where a parent or legal guardian should not receive access to student data, please notify the school immediately.

Parents: Sign In
•WRITE DOWN YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD and keep in a safe place, such as your wallet.
•Parents maintain their own account information (the school does not have access to your personal username or password)
•The link to recover usernames and passwords is not currently working
•Use your personal username and password to sign in

Students: Sign In
•Students have received confidential user name and password from the school. Students used this login to take the online benchmark assessments.
•Enter your username and password to sign in
•Note: Students and parents log-in on the same screen (even though the screen displays “Parent Sign In”)

Miscellaneous
• We encourage you to sign in to the Parent Portal as soon as possible!
• Teachers update grades by the end of the first working day of each week (usually Monday)
• If you have questions about PowerSchool or Home Base, contact your school’s data manager
• Preschool students will not have attendance or grades. Grades for K-2, college classes, or online classes will not be available to parents

Internet Access
• If you are unable to access the internet from home…– Visit your school’s main office where a computer
station will be set up for you to access the Parent Portal
– Visit the public library
