PET vs. GLASS
Average crack length ≈ 4 mm (72 mm without reinforcement)
Average crack length ≈ 18 mm (72 mm without reinforcement)
Easy recycling due to the mineral baseDifficult recycling possibilities
Softening point: 800 - 850 °CSoftening point: 180 - 190 °C
E - Modulus of glass is much higher than of asphalt efficient reinforcement
E - Modulus of PET is fare lower than of asphalt no reinforcement
The low elongation of < 3 % and the similar physical properties of the glass grid and asphalt creates rigid asphalt layers and prevents cracking.
The high elongation of 10 - 16 % allows movements of the asphalt layers. The asphalt cracks even before the grid is able to react.

BEBIT G
• woven grid: glass filament yarns
• coating: SBR-Latex
• strength: 50/50 kN/m , 100/100 kN/m
• width: 2,20 m
• length: up to 100 lm
• good for recycling because of mineral base

Experiences and installation of BEBIT G Plus
• In advance of a big renewing 4 brand products of different manufactures have been installed in a testing field in Zwickau, East Germany.
• Assessments:
- Handling regarding Quality of Installation, - Roll measurements- traffic ability

• Cracking is a well known problem in bituminous road surfaces
• Cracking can result from different causes :
- heavy load- erosion in the ground
- bad construction of the road surface - variations in temperature / frost - dew changes
Experiences and installation of BEBIT G Plus
© BECO Bermüller & Co. GmbH14
• The surface should be smooth, clean and free of bituminous leavings
• Cracks and holes are to be filled and consolidated
• Outlets in the reconstru-ction area - drains or duct covers - must be omitted
Experiences and installation of BEBIT G Plus
© BECO Bermüller & Co. GmbH15
• The surface must be dry and the temperature should be +10° C minimum
• The reconstructing area is to be sprayed with a tack coat with an amount of about 65 - 70 % bitumen.
• The mass of spray at flat rate is about 500 g/m², the mass of spray at acclivity and decline respectively of maximum 8% about 1000 g/m².
Experiences and installation of BEBIT G Plus

• After a waiting time of about 20 - 40 minutes (at 20 - 25 °C outdoor temperature) following the applying of tack coat BEBIT G Plus should be installed by unrolling.
• The amount of tack coat may vary according to the requirements of the construction site (especially on flat regulation layers).
• To reach an ideal adhesion the width of the sprayed area should overlap the total width of the BEBIT G Plus about 50 to 150 mm each side.

• Drapes and wrinkles of BEBIT G Plus during installation should be avoided.
• In sharp curves or special requirements the grid can be cut in sections.
• If there are still drapes BEBIT G Plus should be cut layed flat and then sprayed with some extra tack coat and overlapped in the work flow direction.
Experiences and installation of BEBIT G Plus
© BECO Bermüller & Co. GmbH18
• The overlapping of long-itudinal and diagonal connections should be at least 2 openings
• The overlapping should also be done in the work flow direction

• After installation of BEBIT G Plus there shouldn’t be any traffic except the asphalt paver and its supplier trucks

• It is important that road work vehicles minimise hard breaking and turning
• Hard truck stops and sharp turns can damage the grid
• The asphalt should have an installation temperature
of about 160°C or as specified by the engineer and be installed with a minimum thickness of 70 mm

• Because of the mineral row material base BEBIT G Plus can be cut easily with regular implements on side

Abstract
the installation of BEBIT G Plus reinforces the pavement and inhibits crack formation !
the durability of the pavement is much extended, so that consequential costs can be minimised !
Installation coasts will be optimised through the application of BEBIT G Plus with an improved and simplified laying !

Abstract
the savings in life cycle costs compared with traditional construction having regard to an extended reconstruction cycle averages app. 30 - 50 % !
Numerous of realised projects as well as studies allocate, that in regard to the above mentioned Installation Guide an optimal layer bond is guaranteed !
