o In 1947, Pakistan inherited a weak press with very little law for controlling and regulating the pres. Very few newspapers were published in the newly born Pakistan.

o In East Pakistan and Baluchistan not a single newspaper was published. 

NWFP had two daily papers. Newspapers owned by Muslims came to Pakistan. 

o After independence, a number of newspapers were published but due to financial constraint and many other reasons, their publication did not continue i.e. Roshni, inqallab, musalman.

o The first news agency of Pakistan was associated press of Pakistan (APP). It was established in 1947 by an Eastern news trust. It was a private agency from 1947 to 1961.

o Government took over its control on 5th June 1961 by an ordinance called “Associated Press of Pakistan taking ordinance 1961.

o Media in Pakistan provides information on television, radio, cinema, newspapers, and magazines in Pakistan.

o Pakistan has a vibrant media landscape; among the most dynamic in South Asia.

o Media freedom in Pakistan is complicated, journalists are free to report on most things

o Anything perceived as blasphemous by the countries Blasphemy laws are also automatically subject to censorship

o Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation PBC also known as Radio Pakistan, is a public radio broadcasting network, as well as a mass-media state-owned mega corporation in Pakistan.

o At the time of independence, there were only three radio stations in Lahore, Peshawar and Dhaka in Pakistan.

o The independence of Pakistan was announced through Radio Pakistan on Aug 13, 1947 at 11:59 pm

o Mustafa Ali Hamdani made the announcement in the following words

Greetings! Pakistan Broadcasting Service. We are

speaking from Lahore. The night between the thirteen and fourteen of August, year forty seven. It is twelve o'clock. Dawn of Freedom.

o As Pakistan is a developing country, many areas of our country are without electricity, and literacy rates very low and means of communication are adequate

o Pakistan broadcasting corporation has 24 radio stations which daily broadcasts programs of general entertainment

the source through which most Pakistanis have access to independent TV news. At least 34 Pakistani channels were taken off air, including a dozen popular 24/7 current affairs channels such as

Geo TV , ARY TV , Aaj TV , Dawn News TV , KTN TV , and Khyber TV  as well as international news channels such as CNN and BBC

o On November 26, 1964 the first official television station commenced transmission broadcasts from LAHORE

o  third centre was established in Rawalpindi-Islamabad in 1965 and the fourth in Karachi in 1966. Later centers in Peshawar and Quetta were established by 1974.

o  Originally broadcast in black and white, PTV began color transmission in 1976

o In 2002, the then government of Pakistan opened up new ways for the media industry of Pakistan by allowing private TV channels to operate openly even to telecast their own news and current affairs content. Prior to that the only private TV channel of the country NTM was not allowed to transmit its own news and current affairs programming's. Indus Vision (first ever private satellite channel of Pakistan). ARY Digital, Geo (this network gave a new shape & vision to News and Current affairs programming in Pakistan), Hum, and the phenomenon went on & on.

o Pakistan Television Network, also referred to as PTV, is Pakistan's state owned television network which operates on both terrestrial and satellite. Channels included on the PTV network are

o Media and Judiciary are two independent pillars to save the country from sudden slippage. Judiciary put down number of good decisions in her little age of independence which is only one year

o Hence we can say that in Pakistan the responsibility of media is much more then any media in the world, because Pakistan needs a big change and only media is now, as much powerful

The media is one of the most influential entities we have in this world, with good reason. We rely on media to provide us with information. The mass media has many roles in our world, with providing news to us the most important role.

Media is a powerful tool that can be used to transmit information, news and render influence over large sections of society. If used to broadcast inflammatory or negative sentiments, it could act as a medium to instigate violence or worse.
