American Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November.

In 1620 , 102 pilgrims sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to reach North

America. The pilgrims sailed on the ship

called 'Mayflower'.

The pilgrims arrived in North America in December 1620.

The Wampanoag Indians taught the pilgrims how to cultivate the land.

In Autumn 1621 only half of the pilgrims survived. The survivors decided to give a thanksgiving feast to celebrate the first harvest.They celebrated the first Thanksgiving Day at Plymouth, Massachusetts. The cornucopia is the symbol of abundance.

The pilgrims invited the Wampanoag Indians

also to the feast. The first Thanksgiving celebration wasthree days.

The Indians shared their corn and wild turkeys.

Thanksgiving was declared a national holiday in 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln.

Thanksgiving Day is one of those events that people celebrate with lots of love and gratitude. Its a very significant day in United States and the world over.
