PReS Release Notes v6.1.5
1. New Features and Enhancements
1.1 AFPDS and IPDS: New Registry entry added to cater for large
PDF graphics Previously AFPDS and IPDS/PReS had an internal memory
buffer of 40MB in order to cache large graphics created via the
ImageGear library. This was not always enough to contain the
created graphic and resulted in errors. A new registry entry
TempMemSize can be added under either the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PrintSoft\PReS\AFPDS\prn1 or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PrintSoft\PReS\IPDS\prn1 area of the
Windows Registry to increase the value of the internal memory
buffer. The default value is 80; however a maximum of 512MB is
supported.
1.2 Chart Wizard: 500 series XY Chart Wizard: Y-Axis Range
'Interval' setting refined The Interval setting in the Y-Axis Range
settings for 500 series XY charts has been changed. Existing
behaviour When Maximum is set to Fixed, and Interval is set to
Fixed, the interval value is used directly to label the Y-axis. For
example: Minimum = 0, Maximum = 100, Interval = 15 Y-axis labels
will be: 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90 New behaviour When Maximum is set
to Auto, and Interval is set to Fixed, the interval value is used
to specify the physical gap in between each label on the Y-axis.
The interval value does not equate directly to any measurement
unit, but is used by an algorithm within the Chart library. For
example: Minimum = 0, Maximum = Auto, Interval = 30 Y-axis labels
may be: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 If we double the interval to 60, we
double the distance in between the labels and hence: Y-axis labels
may be: 20, 40, 60
1.3 PDF: New MODEL DEFAULT_MONO instruction added An issue was
found if a multiple page TIFF contained both colour and black and
white pages. The colour pages would print as solid black if the
entire graphic was to be printed as monochrome only. To overcome
this issue a new MODEL DEFAULT_MONO instruction has been created to
treat all images as monochrome unless colour is specifically
established via the C format. For example: MODEL "DEFAULT_MONO"
;specifies monochrome as default standard MODEL "COLOR" ;still
needed to enable potential colour
-
26th June, 2012 PReS 6.1.5 Release Notes 5
;printing like all the other PDLs LOADGRAPHIC "colour1.tif"
;prints monochrome LOADGRAPHIC "colour2.tif",'C' ;prints colour
SETXY 1,1,"colour3.tif" ;prints B/W
-
2. Known Issues
2.1 PostScript: Error occurring when PDF graphic contains
TrueType and Type 1 font of the same name
PDF graphics are a supported graphic format for use in
PostScript/PReS. However the following error message:
99-1-1-06-0005 PRESGraphic Error: "Name of graphic.PDF" Error
-2010: Could not detect the format of this file may appear if the
script references a font that has two Windows system fonts using
the same internal name.
3. Fixes
3.1 Last font in font list is only displayed when the name is
followed by a CR/LF When using a font list, if the last font name
in the list file did not contain a CR/LF at the end it would not be
displayed in the Fonts and Graphics dialog. This has been
fixed.
3.2 Incorrect alignment of Unicode text in certain jobs A
problem was found where Unicode text was being incorrectly aligned
in comparison to previous versions during certain jobs. This has
been fixed.
3.3 Sixth parameter in DRAWBOX instruction ignored when it is
contained in a numeric array If the sixth parameter used in the
DRAWBOX instruction was a numeric array, rather than a simple
numeric value, then it was ignored. This has been fixed.
3.4 Error occurring when large PDF graphic used in job When a
job containing large PDF graphics was run through AFPDS and IPDS it
would produce a global memory has been depleted error and if run
through PDF/PReS produce a fatal error when the page was printed.
This has been fixed.
-
26th June, 2012 PReS 6.1.5 Release Notes 7
3.5 Second parameter in SETMARGIN instruction ignored when
contained in a numeric array If the second parameter used in the
SETMARGIN instruction is a numeric array, rather than a simple
numeric value, then it was being ignored. This has been fixed.
3.6 PReS installer prompting an Insert disk 1 error when
upgrading from the DVD image If the PReS 6.1.4 DVD was being used
to upgrade the current version of PReS, the error message Insert
disk 1 would appear and prevent any further progress. This has been
fixed.
3.7 Dongle Upgrade Tool cannot create DDF A problem was found in
version 6.1.4 where the Dongle Upgrade Tool could not create a DDF
file if the default path name was used. This has been fixed.
3.8 Optimise feature in the XML Data Wizard incorrect when
dealing with mixed content data Some mixed content text based
records were being merged into their parent records in the XML Data
Wizard when they shouldnt have been. This has been fixed.
3.9 PReS cannot find help files after upgrade If a new version
of PReS was installed over an existing version of PReS and the
previous installation was set up using the non-default directory
path then the internal links to the help files were incorrect. This
has been fixed. Note: This issue also extended to the default
TRF/PDI directories and has also been rectified.
3.10 Error occurring when PReS is installed on Russian Windows 7
64bit When PReS was being installed on a Russian Windows 7 64bit
operating system an error message Error 2609... would occur. This
has been fixed.
3.11 Hex separator \xB9 is replaced by a null in ASCII Delimited
data when script is reopened If an ASCII Delimited data file was
defined as having a separator value of \xB9 (superscript 1) it was
being replaced by a \x00 (null) once the script was closed and
reopened. This has been fixed.
-
3.12 Decimal separator not being correctly read from the
Regional Settings The Data Manager was not interpreting the comma
(,) as a decimal separator for those regions where is this was
applicable.
3.13 Underline too thick when using bitmap fonts and NEW
WORDWRAP is enabled If a script was using bitmap fonts and the
WORDWRAP string contained underline control sequences, the
underline would be created as a thick box instead of a line if the
LITREC NEW_WORDWRAP instruction was not used. This has been
fixed.
3.14 AFPDS: LOADGRAPHIC with T format causing 200dpi TIF to be
truncated When using the LOADGRAPHIC instruction with the T format
(signifying a TIF image) a non 8bit aligned, 200dpi TIF was being
truncated on output. This has been fixed.
3.15 AFPDS: Ming(for ISO10646) incorrectly wordwrapping when
using either full or right justification If Unicode text was either
full or right justified using the WORDWRAP instruction with the
Ming(for ISO10646) font, it would result in incorrect output. This
has been fixed.
3.16 AFPDS and IPDS: Bitmap fonts not wrapping consistently
between PDLs A problem was found where wrapped fields were being
broken across lines in different locations when the job was run in
PDF/PReS instead of IPDS or AFPDS/PReS. This only occurred with
bitmap fonts and was caused by the different unit of measurement
used by the PDLs. To fix this issue the new MODEL RELBMFNT
instruction needs to be used.
3.17 Chart Wizard: All items displayed in the legend, even if
they contain a zero value When a Pie Chart contains an element that
has a zero value it will still be listed in the legend, despite not
appearing in the chart. In previous versions this element would not
appear in the legend.
3.18 GO and IJS/PReS: Unicode will sometimes have an extra
character at the end of a JUSTIFY When using a Unicode string in
either GO or IJS/PReS, an extra superfluous character would appear
at the end of a string when it was justified via the JUSTIFY
instruction. This has been fixed.
-
26th June, 2012 PReS 6.1.5 Release Notes 9
3.19 IPDS: Misleading error message when Null Driver is disabled
and no IP address has been set When an IP address had not been
established for the IPDS Print Control and the Null Driver was
disabled, the following error message would appear:
This error message has now been changed to reflect the cause of
the initial problem.
3.20 PDF: Transparency not being applied to certain images A
problem was found where certain images would not appear as
transparent when not used as the first image in the PReS script.
This has been fixed.

PReS Release Notes v6.1.4
4. New Features and Enhancements
4.1 Full justification with Unicode correctly spaces characters
When the tag is applied to a font used to fully justify Unicode
text the double byte glyphs are now evenly spaced along the entire
specified width. Note: This enhancement has resulted in a change in
the way single-byte words are fully justified on a line where it
contains only one word. In previous versions the characters within
this word were spaced as normal. In 6.1.4 onward the characters are
evenly spaced along the specified wrap width as best as possible.
This does not apply to the last line in a fully justified
paragraph, which is always left justified. See the below
example:
Old Functionality
New Functionality
4.2 XMLin2PReS now caters for default character sets
In XMLin2PReS it is possible to define a default font, size and
style at the message block level, for use with +PReS Share, however
there was no default character set attribute. This resulted in a
run time error in XMLin2PReS when an ANSI or double byte job
contained a font that did not use the ANSI/Western character set. A
default character set is now defined in order to avoid any font
related errors.
-
26th June, 2012 PReS 6.1.5 Release Notes 11
4.3 General enhancements made to the XML Data Wizard The XML
Wizard/Parser has been significantly re-worked and simplified to
facilitate the use of more complex XML files as data sources within
PReS and PReS Designer. Within the wizard itself the following
updates can be found:
Users can no longer manually create the data structure for the
XML file. This is to reduce potential issues with parsing and any
future upgrades.
Due to significant enhances made to the XML parser, the
'Advanced' dialog has been streamlined to contain only the option
to limit recursive XML elements.
When using an XSD for the XML definition, the XML Wizard can now
automatically detect the PReS field types required for your data.
In the case where the XSD schema contains a tag with the xs:decimal
property, the XML Wizard will set this field by default to NUMERIC
instead of ALPHA.
As these areas have been corrected and improved, therefore
creating a new RECORD definition from the XML Wizard June result in
differences from any previous iterations of the wizard. Please
ensure that if creating new RECORD definition for any existing
scripts that the logic within the PReS script is still correct for
the new definition. There remains no need to update any existing
XMLDEF files or RECORD definitions that were created prior to PReS
6.1.4, as they will function exactly as in previous versions.
-
5. Fixes
5.1 WORDWRAP incorrect on subsequent pages when Japanese font
used A problem was found where the text output from the WORDWRAP
instruction was correct on the first page; but it became incorrect
on any subsequent pages if a Japanese outline font was used. This
has been fixed.
5.2 Hyphenation is not correctly handled in the case of single
words For cases where a block of text consisted of a single word
and the length of the word exceeded the wrap width the WORDWRAP
code was adding the length of original word to the line length
before trying to hyphenate the word. The result was that the hyphen
broke in the wrong place. This has been fixed.
5.3 UniWW DLL crashes when processing certain Indian text A
memory allocation error in the UniWW DLL was causing the program to
crash when processing certain Indian Unicode sequences. This has
been fixed.
5.4 WORDWRAP with full justification not working correctly with
Bitmap fonts When a fully justified WORDWRAP instruction was
executed using Bitmap fonts (e.g. IPL and IPF fonts), the wrap
width boundary was being exceeded. This has been fixed.
5.5 Fatal error occurring when REWIND 0 instruction executed on
a XML data file A fatal error was occurring when the REWIND 0
instruction was executed and the input data file was XML. This has
been fixed.
5.6 XML job with strict validation keeps looping without error A
job using an XML data file with the validation set to strict was
causing an infinite loop when it reached the End of File section of
the script, without prompting any error. This has been fixed and
the Print Controls will now prompt a relevant error message.
5.7 Fatal error occurring when REWIND 0 instruction executed on
a XML data file A problem was found where a fatal error would occur
when the REWIND 0 instruction was executed and the input data file
is XML. This has been fixed.
-
26th June, 2012 PReS 6.1.5 Release Notes 13
5.8 AFPDS: Mixed byte text not wrapping correctly when right
justification is set When the WORDWRAP field contained mixed single
and double byte text and it is right justified, the output in
AFPDS/PReS would be printed at an incorrect length. This has been
fixed.
5.9 PDF: WORDWRAP with mixed byte data producing incorrect
output When the WORDWRAP field contained mixed single and double
byte text the output would be incorrect when using PDF/PReS. This
has been fixed.
5.10 XML Data Wizard: Missing pages in output An error was
sometimes occurring when parsing certain XML data files, causing
the document set to be unexpectedly truncated and the resulting
pages to be missing from the output. This has been fixed.
-
PReS Release Notes v6.1.3
6. New Features and Enhancements
6.1 Font limit increased in PDF and PostScript PDF and
PostScript/PReS now allow a maximum number of 256 fonts to be
specified in a font list.
6.2 AFPDS: New tag added to define multiple transparent TIFs A
new tag is available to specify that all TIFs defined in the
Graphics List are to be treated as transparent. For example: MODEL
"IOB=TIFTM" Note: When this instruction is used the use of the tag
is not necessary. In this case of SETXY 1,1,"Page.TIF" and SETXY
1,1 "PAGE.TIF" will yield the same result, with the TIF being
transparent.
6.3 Chart Wizard: New option added to avoid labels overlapping
in a pie chart A new option has been added to the Chart Wizard
regarding the placement of the labels within a pie chart. The
Layout Method drop box allows users to choose between the default
Circular method which can sometimes cause label values to overlap
when the chart contains narrow pie segments, or the new Side method
which lists the labels to the side avoiding any potential
clutter.
-
26th June, 2012 PReS 6.1.5 Release Notes 15
6.4 Changes made to the CONVERT instruction Some changes were
made to the CONVERT instruction to simplify the insertion of font
changes.
1. CONVERT with the 'F' parameter The instruction will now
insert the appropriate font change at the beginning of the field.
Previously, only font changes were added after the first font
change in the field
2. CONVERT with the 'FDB' parameter
The 'FDB' Format code will insert the default double byte and
single byte marks into a mixed byte string. The current 'F' format
will still work which allows the insertion of !0! and !1! into the
string.
-
7. Fixes
7.1 RSS handling documentation expanded The documentation has
been expanded to contain the advanced options available to the
GS1/RSS barcode.
7.2 LOADGRAPHIC fails to find files with long paths A problem
was found where the LOADGRAPHIC instruction failed to find graphics
if the name contained more than 128 bytes. This has been fixed.
7.3 REPLACE 'F' ignores the scope it was invoked in. A problem
was found where the REPLACE 'F' instruction does not take into
account the section in where it is invoked. For example if the
instruction was executed in a subroutine it would look for a global
internal variable, even if there was a variable of the same name
defined within the subroutine. This has been fixed.
7.4 IJS Archive removed from setup The IJS Archive executable
has been removed from the installer as it is now redundant.
7.5 Blank page produced with certain jobs without an error
message A lack of cache memory in the XMLInputManager was resulted
in it not being possible to load large document sets into memory.
This has been fixed.
7.6 Corrupted Datamatrix barcode occuring if module dimension is
greater than 9 A problem was found where the Datamatrix barcode
would be incorrectly generated if the module dimension was greater
than 9. This has been fixed.
7.7 WORDWRAP instruction adding extra space to a line A problem
was found where the WORDWRAP instruction would add an extra space
to a line when executed, resulting in right aligned text being
incorrectly positioned. This has been fixed.
7.8 REPLACE F instruction crashing with certain TRF text The
REPLACE F instruction would occasionally crash when performing a
replace on certain TRF text. This has been fixed.
-
26th June, 2012 PReS 6.1.5 Release Notes 17
7.9 SPLIT instruction incorrectly using double byte characters
as delimiters The delimiter character specified in the SPLIT
instruction must be ANSI, unless it needs to be Unicode. A problem
was found where the instruction was incorrectly using a double byte
character as the delimiter. This has been fixed.
7.10 CONVERT with F format not adding initial font change with
mixed byte text A problem was found where if the DB font name was
shorter than the SB font name an Unknown Font error was displayed.
This has been fixed.
7.11 WRITE instruction causing an Open Error on text file A
problem was found where the WRITE instruction would cause an Open
Error where the instruction was part of a loop that wrote to a
single text file.
7.12 AFPDS: Certain XML data files causing to terminate early A
problem was found where certain XML data files were causing the
AFPDS Print Control to terminate without warning. This has been
fixed.
7.13 AFPDS: $Result set to 0 after LOADGRAPHIC is executed if
graphic is in the Graphics List In AFPDS/PReS $Result was being
incorrectly set to 0 when the LOADGRAPHIC instruction was executed,
provided the graphic was also defined in the Graphics List. Under
the same circumstances all of the other PDLs set $Result to 1. This
has been fixed.
7.14 AFPDS and IPDS: Thin border displayed around graphic A
problem was found where a thin border line was displayed on the
right side of particular graphics. This was caused by the rounding
up of bitmap widths and has been fixed.
7.15 IPDS: Charts at different PDC resolutions are different
sizes The size of a chart should remain static regardless of the
resolution set in the script. However a problem was found where the
size of the chart was changing when the PDC resolution changed.
This has been fixed.
-
7.16 PDF: Problems searching for text in PDF output A problem
was found were it was no longer possible to search for text strings
in PDF files output from PReS. This has been fixed.
7.17 PDF: RESTOREPAGE causing Fatal Error when mixed byte fonts
were used A problem was found where the RESTOREPAGE instruction was
causing a Fatal Error when mixed single and double byte fonts were
used.

26th June, 2012 PReS 6.1.5 Release Notes 19
PReS Release Notes v6.1.2
8. New Features and Enhancements
8.1 AFPDS: LITREC DS instruction added to allow structured
fields to be written into Resource Group A new variation on the
LITREC instruction has been added to allow structured fields to be
written into the Resource Group Area of the resulting spool file.
Example: LITREC BeginResource,DS A practical application of this is
to embed the code to create a Formdef. A full example of this
functionality can be found in the AFPDS/PReS section of the Online
Help.
9. Fixes
9.1 DBF files can only conform to the 8.3 naming convention A
problem was found where $FileID was displaying an incorrect value
when the file name did not conform to the 8.3 naming convention.
DBF files with long file names also caused connection failures due
to differences between the referenced file name and the actual file
name. This has been fixed.
9.2 +PReS Share / WebDirect jobs crashing when using PReS 6.1.0
A change was made to the PDCSymbolsInfo.dll in version 6.1.0
regarding the way dates were returned and this was causing +PReS
Share / WebDirect jobs to crash due to an invalid date. This has
been fixed.
9.3 AFPDS: SPOOL I4 instruction not adding Formdef An issue was
found where the associated Formdef was not being included in the
resource (res) file when the I4 format was used with the SPOOL
instruction. This has been fixed.
9.4 GO: tag not working in version 6.x.x The valid tag for
signifying an extended ASCII font, , was causing the error Unknown
Font when included in a font name. This has been fixed.
9.5 PDF: PDF/A output not fully compliant
-
A problem was found where certain validating tools were
producing warnings with PDF/A output created through PDF/PReS. This
has been fixed.
