2. What are 21st Century Skills? These skills are critical for students to be successful learning any subject area. 3. 21st Century Skills for Next-Generation Assessments Students should be proficient to maximize their assessment performance and scores 4. How do 21st Century Skills Relate to Common Core? 21st Century Skills like Technology Operations and Concepts are embedded throughout the Common Core Framework: Writing Standard 6: W.5.6. Grade 5: With some guidance and support from adults, use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as interact and collaborate with others; demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a minimum of two pages in a single sitting Reading Literacy in Science and Technical Subjects Standard 9: RST.8.9. Grade 8: Compare and contrast information gained from experiments, digital simulations, video, or multimedia sources with that gained from reading a text on the same topic 21st Century skills are no longer considered separate from the core subjects like Math and ELA they are key to core area mastery 5. Jefferson County Schools District population 7,251 students 12 schools Title I schools 12 qualify Rural district in East Tennessee 7. Digital Readiness Why digital readiness what started you on this journey? Concerned with PARCC Readiness Want to ensure digital citizenship 8. Why Learning.com? How did your district get introduced to Learning.com and what lead to the choice? Instructional Tech coordinator found Learning.com online and got a 30 day trial 30 days ended and soon students were asking building principal for more Learning.com District office floored that students asked for more instructional tech 9. Implementation Plan What products were used? How did implementation begin? ET went from 1 elementary school trial to district wide in all elementary schools We did are own training which worked out okay In retrospect we wish we had Learning.com training Adoption would have been a faster and our comfort level would have been enhanced 10. Response from Educators 11. Results Students were confident and comfortable keyboarding while taking TN writing assessment in February Students are more familiar with productivity tools such as typing: I feel that its a really good experience because before I started using Learning.com I was typing really slowly and now I type really fast Elementary School Student Students are more informed about online safety Mist Test 12. Future Plans We may expand to additional services with Learning.com and add EasyTech to our middle schools. Our plan is to continue using Learning.com to further improve our students' state assessment scores and Digital Citizenship. 13.
