NEWS FROM THE PRAIRIE VIEW LIBRARY
Brand new year!! The PV Library is ready to get books in your students hands! Please keep in mind a few expectations for your student:
Books must be returned EVERY week! Even if they are renewing a book they would like to finish reading,
All Kindergarten and 1st graders will check out one book a week. If they forget their book, they will be unable to check out another.
All 2nd - 5th grade check out 2 books a week and their accounts are monitored appropriately to make sure they are turning in all books or renewing books.
I am also looking for any parents who would like to come and volunteer in the library. I always have various jobs that helps make the library a special place for reading. If you are interested, please email me.
I'm glad to be serving your students again this year. Happy Reading!
DESTRUCTION OF STUDENT RECORDS Central Community Unit School District 301 will destroy special education records from school years 2011-12 and prior of students who graduated, transferred, or otherwise permanently withdrew from special education services. Special education records may include reports of psychological and social work evaluations, multidisciplinary planning conferences, annual reviews, copies of Individual Education Programs and other relevant information. If a parent or student wants those records, they should call the Student Support Services & Special Education Office at 847-464-5863 before October 27, 2017.
Early Childhood Screenings State law indicates that all children with qualifying disabilities between birth and the age of five must be provided with programs appropriate to their needs. Central Community School District #301 will conduct such screenings at Howard B. Thomas Grade School, 44W575 Plato Road, Hampshire, IL from August through March at pre-arranged times.
The following areas are sample behaviors that might indicate that a preschool child may be eligible for special education services:
- Does not talk or communicate as well as others his/her age
- Is always on the fringe of activities, never really involved
- Finds it difficult to play with other children
- Has difficulty with feeding, dressing and toileting
- Has difficulty putting together a puzzle, matching shapes/patterns
- Has difficulty sitting still while listening to a short story or watching television
- Does not respond to verbal cues when his/her back is turned
- Does not know names of common objects
- Cannot jump in place, appears clumsy, and/or walks into objects
- Has difficulty riding a tricycle, catching a ball or walking up stairs
f you notice that your child has displayed any of the above difficulties, or if you have other concerns, please contact Julie Salamone, Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator at 847-464-6008 to arrange an Early Childhood Screening.

CLASSROOM PARTY SIGN UP and CLASSROOM CO-COMMUNICATION LIASION During the school year there are three classroom parties that parents plan for their child’s respective classroom: Halloween Party, Winter Holiday Party, End of Year Party. We are looking for 6 parent volunteers to plan, prepare and attend for each party (one parent per child please.) Sign up will be done online this school year. You may sign up to volunteer for one party online through the PV PTO website.
www.prairieviewgradeschoolpto.com Sign up will begin on Friday, September 1st at 4:00pm and will close on Friday, September 8th at 4:00pm. Two co-communication captains (CCCs) are needed for each classroom as well. You may sign up for this role, as well, through the PV PTO website. CCCs will ensure that party planning for each party has begun in a timely manner, organize donations for the Valentine’s Day party, and manage any other miscellaneous classroom events that need parent involvement. CCCs, if desired, still need to sign up for one party to attend. Your commitment to be a CCC does NOT automatically sign you up for party planning.
