MESSAGE
extend my warmest felicitations to the
PLDT Retirees Association, Inc. (PRAI), its
officers and directors and its membership
as a whole as it celebrates the Fifth Anni-
versary of its founding.
PRAI is more than just an association, it is a
brotherhood of PLDT retirees. It not only
provides opportunities for interaction and
camaraderie through its get-togethers and
assemblies but it has also helped
strengthen the realization that productive
life does not necessarily end after retire-

ment through the programs, projects and activities it has carried on since its estab-
lishment five years ago.
As PRAI now celebrates is Fifth Anniversary, through DOUBLE UP @ FIVE, its lead-
ership commits to intensify its efforts to become a model retirement association,
serving our needs in the best manner possible and for this it deserves our continu-
ing whole-hearted support. I wish it greater success in all its endeavors!
Mabuhay ang PRAI! Mabuhay ang PLDT retirees!
God bless us all!
am pleased to greet my fellow retirees
from the company that changes lives,
including ours. It is a good idea to get
together and reminisce about our good
times together, and more importantly the
many years still ahead of us. In our sixth
general assembly (which sounds like a
charter change for a new government) we
have the opportunity to exchange recipes
and compare notes on which food court in
what mall has the best halo-halo. We can

also show each other our grandchildren's pictures.
More than anything else, we should celebrate the times we had together and the
life we still enjoy. Although some of our dear colleagues have joined the big
phone company in the sky (and we miss them so) there are still many of us who
enjoy what we're presently doing, or not doing. So many ballrooms, so little time.
I think of myself as an optimist, someone who is hopeful that the future, if it will
not be better than the past, will at least not be worse. Napoleon calls such men
as himself "merchants of hope." We too should sell hope and buy it in big doses
as well. Not all of the retirees among our members are senior citizens, but a
great majority probably are. To them I say, paraphrasing Karl Marx - Senior
Citizens of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your aches and pains.
May the blessings of the Lord be showered on us as we celebrate PRAI's fifth

on its fifth founding anniversary!
Ralph Waldo Emerson, the great Ameri-
can essayist once said: "Nothing great
was ever achieved without enthusiasm."
Another proof to the truthfulness of this
quote is the enthusiasm shown by the
core group of organizers, the PRAI
officers and members who have labored
to achieve the admirable status of the
Association today, after five years of existing on meager and limited resources.
The intensity of enthusiasm, dedication, passion and generosity of time given by our
officers and members served as a stimulus to the founding and successful existence
of PRAI. We also acknowledge the enthusiastic support of our benevolent sponsors,
PLDT, PECCI and TELESCOOP whose understanding and generosity contributed to
the achievements of our Association.
As the first and past president of PRAI, I wish to convey my sincere gratitude to
everyone who contributed their time and exerted efforts to achieve the goals and
objectives of our Association. During the initial years that PRAI struggled, I remem-
ber how we were able to continuously solicit membership of PLDT retirees. As the
membership grew, we were able to implement a prime project, a HEALTH CARE
Program that benefitted the members. Many tasks and activities were also accom-
plished during those years consistent with our vision that PRAI will serve as an
organization that embraces former PLDT employees.
More than experiencing the assistance and benefits, let us continue our camarade-
rie and belonging, exchange pleasantries, and share the simple enjoyment of remi-
niscing the good old PLDT days.
I enjoin everyone to maintain the zeal and continue making PRAI a legacy of former
PLDT employees.

MESSAGE
HHHHH ow time has flown and in a wink of an eye,
the PLDT Retirees Association, Inc has
turned 55555!
This year posts as a milestone for PRAI as it
bears witness to five (5) years of fruitful
existence . . . from its inception in 2005 . . .
going through birth pains and struggles
until its gradual take-off to reap achieve-
ments and successes, keeping true to its
mission of "unifying PLDT retirees and
working towards the cause of providing the
ultimate in welfare and benefits to itsmembers". It is a delight to remember, too, that in our growing-up years, PLDT,
PECCI and TELESCOOP were also behind each successful step.
Our theme, "DOUBLE -UP @ 5""DOUBLE -UP @ 5""DOUBLE -UP @ 5""DOUBLE -UP @ 5""DOUBLE -UP @ 5" is most apt as it triggers doubling up our
efforts to get to our vision of "being the model in the retirement sector". After
five years of applying the appropriate gears to get to our vision, we are bent on
beefing up the energy to sustain the momentum.
An inspirational speaker once said, "People can be categorized into three . . .
people who make things happen, people who wait for things to happen and
people who wonder what happened." WWWWWe chose to make chose to make chose to make chose to make chose to make things happene things happene things happene things happene things happen,
hence, has PRAI come about . . . resilient, passionate and focused to succeed.
We've found our strengths, hence, we are determined to grow to our maximum
potential.
Our officers, most of whom have served two (2) terms, have one goal for PRAI .
. . to make the retirees HAPPY because that is what we deserve, after long
years of hard work in our younger years. Let not age, though, be a barrier to do
momentous things. Time is precious as each day brings . . . let's grasp it and let
it bring new experiences and let age just be a number to tell us how far we've
already gone.
Retirees don't just retire . . . they re-hire themselves into being active in another
capacity . . .. more involved in creating a better society.
Choose to make things happen . . . . DOUBLE-UP to CHEERS!Choose to make things happen . . . . DOUBLE-UP to CHEERS!Choose to make things happen . . . . DOUBLE-UP to CHEERS!Choose to make things happen . . . . DOUBLE-UP to CHEERS!Choose to make things happen . . . . DOUBLE-UP to CHEERS!
