Practicing Art Criticism with the Artworks of the Lake Wales Ridge Exhibit Art Criticism Lesson Plan Student Level: Middle or High School Overview: Students will study three works from the Lake Wales Ridge Exhibit and use the Feldman Process of Critique to further understand the works. Next Generation Sunshine State Standards: Grade 68 VA.68.F.3.2 Analyze the procedural and divergent thinking skills developed in visual art to identify a purpose for the communication of art ideas. VA.68.C.3.1 Incorporate accurate art vocabulary during the analysis process to describe the structural elements of art and organizational principles of design. Grade 912 VA.912.C.2.2 Assess the works of others, using established or derived criteria, to support conclusions and judgments about artistic progress. VA.912.C.3.1 Use descriptive terms and varied approaches in art analysis to explain the meaning or purpose of an artwork. Materials Needed: • ‘PowerPoint for Practicing Art Criticism with the Artworks of the Lake Wales Ridge Exhibit’ (Download this PowerPoint from the Wildflower Wayside Trail Website). Duration of Lesson: 2 45 minute classes Directions: In this lesson, the teacher guides the students through a series of 3 artworks by 3 different artists.
