Our Goal at Cedar Hill Intermediate

To improve student MAP scores– Communication Arts– Math

We have 5th and 6th grade classes that need to be improved in state mandated standardized testing

Background for improvement

Practice Planet has been purchased for our school on a limited & trial bases

We would like to continue that purchase and increase the district discount by going multi-year

We would like to increase usage to daily by teachers and students

How Practice Planet Works

Set up– School given site code– All teacher and student accounts created– Administrators and teachers may set preferences– Specific directions are given by Practice Planet

Teachers give students grade specific subject area pre-test

Students & Teachers given immediate feedback and test results

Practice Planet then:– Identifies areas of strength and weakness in

subject area.– 80% mastery is default

Students given assigned activities to help improve concept in weakness areas.

– When student shows mastery of weakness area Student allowed fun game as a motivator The more correct answers the more game play Teacher can edit amount of game play available

– After each question or each activity

Mastery and games skill activities distinct – Mastery is not dependent upon game skill

Student must master content more than once for mastery to take place

After prescribed activities are mastered – Student takes a grade specific subject area post-

test

Post-test shows students level of growth Teacher may assign the student another

grade level pre-test to continue to improve mastery

5th & 6th Grade MAP Data

Classes that used Practice Planet always had equal to or higher Advanced and Proficient scores of any class in any area

Daily usage by the 5th grade class 3 provided the biggest spread for improvement

Teacher of the 5th grade class 3 said that Practice Planet was the difference in her scores

Class 3 that used Practice Planet daily had a 34% better average in Proficient and Advanced than all other class averages.
