WhowasJames?Twomen intheNewTestamentnamedJameswhowereprominentenoughtohavewrittenthisletter:
1. JamesthebrotherofJohn,oneofthetwelveapostles2. JamesthebrotherofJesus.
ThefirstasLuketellsus,wasexecutedbyHerodAgrippaIinA.D.44(Acts12:2)andthisletterwasprobablynotwrittenthisearly.SoweareleftwithJamesthebrotheroftheLordasthemostlikelyauthor(Matthew13:55;Mark6:3).ThisJamesdidnotatfirstbelieveinJesus'messianicclaims(John7:5),butwasapparentlyconvertedasaresultofJesus'resurrectionappearances(1Corinthians15:7).HebecamealeaderoftheearlychurchinJerusalem.
