BismillahirrahmanirrahimAssalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

First of all, let us praise to the Almighty, Allah SWT, because of his Blessings and Helps, weare able to gather here to attend the International Conference on Recent Research and Issues inMathematics, Sciences, Technology, Education and Their Applications (ICMSTEA) 2014.

The development of education and technology in recent decades grows very rapidly. Inaddition, they have been specialized into many specific topics. Indeed, for researchers andlecturers, being qualified of a specific field as well as being aware of the contemporarydevelopment of other fields are two crucial things. One of the reasons why we undertake theconference is to fulfill those two things. By attending the conference, researchers and lecturershave a good opportunity to share their research findings and to obtain broader descriptions ofthe development of other general knowledge.

We convey our deep appreciation and gratitude to all of the committees that work from thebeginning to support and organize the conference. We also strongly expect the participants ofthe conference to be continually productive, increase the capacity in conducting a research, andcarry out both national and international scientific publications.

Finally, let me again recite thank you to the all participants of the conference who are receptiveto spend their time to be present and entirely involved at this events. I wish the conferenceadvantageous for all of us.Billahitaufiqwalhidayah,

Wassalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

Forewords from Rector of UNM

BismillahirrahmanirrahimAssalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Your respectable, the high officials of State University of Makassar, the committee, thespeakers, and the participants of conference.

It gives me a great pleasure to extend to you all a very warm welcome, especially to ourkeynote speakers who have accepted our invitation to attend the conference. It is an opportune time to convey to you that UNM is celebrating the 53rd Dies Natalis and itcommends the faculty of Mathematics and Science (FMIPA) to be in charge of all activitysequences in the Dies Natalis. However, the support of other faculties is also really influentialand gives valuable contribution to the success of the event.

In that celebration, we undertake several agendas including educational and sport activities. The conference, ICMSTEA, is one of our educational activities that covers a wide range ofvery interesting items relating to mathematics, sciences, education, technology and theirapplications.

By taking participation of this seminar, it is highly expected to all of us to share our researchfindings to society and continuously develop new ideas and knowledge. Those things are twosignificant steps in improving the quality of nations around the world, increasing ourfamiliarity to each other, and even avoiding underdevelopment.

On this good occasion, let me quote what Obama said about the education related to thisconference and I wish fruitful for all of us:

Every single one of you has something you’re good at. Every single one of you has somethingto offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That is theopportunity an education can provide.

Furthermore, I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to allorganizing committee especially for the Faculty of Mathematics and Science that primarilyhosts this conference particularly and other Dies Natalis events generally.

Finally, this is a great time for me to declare the official opening of the InternationalConference on Recent Research and Issues in Mathematics, Sciences, Technology, Educationand Their Applications (ICMSTEA) 2014.

I wish you a very enjoyable stay in Makassar, I warmly welcome you again, as in Makassar,we say “salamakki battu ri mangkasara”.

Abstract

In this paper, we described the results of studies on the application of mathematical modeling SIRfor the transmission of dengue fever in the community Lanrisang, Pinrang districts. The method isused collaboration between researchers and extension staff to the community Lanrisang. Methodused is training, discussion and outreach between research collaboration with health center staff. The result are; 1) the increasing skill and the changes insight about the relationship of healthsciences and mathematics in modeling the spread of dengue. In particular, SIR prediction for thenumber of dengue cases and 2) Anticipation of transmission and improve the ability and awarenessin preventing and combating the spread of dengue in the district Lanrisang, Pinrang district.

Keywords: Dengue fever; SEIR model; Basic reproduction number; Epidemic area.

1. IntroductionAstronomically District of Lanrisangstood at 3 ° 19'13 "to 4 ° 10'30" southlatitude and 119 ° 26'30 "to 119 ° 47'20"east longitude. An aspect of health is oneof the main aspects that require seriousaction in Lanrisang, Pinrang district, especially in the prevention of denguecases are increasing from year to year.

Pinrang is one district that is the epidemicof Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) inSouth Sulawesi. Outbreaks of denguefever (DHF) in recent Pinrang quiteprominent and showed an increasing trendevery year. The number of dengue casesin Pinrang is presented in Table 1 follow:

Tabel 1.Dengue Fever Cases in Pinrang District

Head of Disease Prevention andEnvironmental Health (P2PL) Pinrang,Drg Dyah Puspita Dewi, M, Kes saidthere are 56 points entering the red lineDengue epidemic that will be fogged andspread over 12 districts in Pinrang. "Wenever lose dengue cases from 731 cases in2011 to only 47 cases in 2012, but in theearly 2013's, Pinrang back Dengueoutbreak declared by the findings of 65cases only a month, "said Chief MedicalOfficer Pinrang, Dr. Ridha. Only, the

region that includes endemic in 12districts, including the District Lanrisang,we've spent a 200 liter drum. It does notinclude other drugs, "said Dr. Ridha.(Fajar, February 2013).

Prevention is done until now is toclean the tub once a week, close the wateris clean, replace the water in the vaseevery day, throw plastic and unused goodsin place and curing or abatisation, eradication of mosquito breeding andextension. Lack of knowledge and

understanding of the dangers andprevention of infectious diseases in thisarea is a problem that must be addressed.

Collaboration counseling betweenhealth agencies and academic elements ofunderstanding about the dangers of thisdisease are needed, for example executorwho has researched the SIR mathematicalmodeling to predict the number of casesof dengue fever (Syafruddin Side, 2010;2011) which can be used as a tool todetermine the prediction and also becomeccontrolling so expect a solution indealing with an outbreak of dengue feverin Lanrisang, Pinrang.

2. Material and MethodPlan activities and methods that will do isgive you an understanding and empowerstaff and community health centers interms of improving insight, abilities, skillsand technology in understanding therelationship of health sciences andmathematics in handling a wide variety ofinfectious diseases, especially denguefever. The method used is to docounseling, training, discussion, andeducation collaboration between healthcenter staff and researchers.

3. Result and DiscussionThe first activity undertaken was followedby training health center staff Lanrisang. Results of research on DengueHemorrhagic Fever (DHF) using MAPLEsoftware introduced in this activity. Healthcenter staff made a number of dengue

cases prediction simulations using realdata in 2013 for the District Lanrisangexisting in the health center. One result ofsimulation showed in Figure 1. Thesecond activity is the extension ofcollaboration undertaken on DengueHemorrhagic Fever (DHF) among healthcenter staff and researchers about theimportance of health, especially infectiousdiseases using the results of research onpublic Lanrisang, Pinrang. The methodsused are lectures, discussions and questionand answer about the dangers of infectiousdiseases, especially dengue fever anddiarrhea that is often found in this region.

These services are carried out withthe involvement of active dengue expertsprovide counseling field as well as explainthe facts that occurred during the last 6months in the district Lanrisang, thencorroborated with the simulation results ofthe SIR mathematical modeling using databy experts. The results obtained are:1) Increasing public knowledge about

the importance of health sciences, especially dengue fever.

2) Increased insight, abilities, skills, andbehavior in the prevention of denguefever in the District Lanrisang.

3) People have been able to play anactive role in reducing the number ofcases of dengue fever was ultimatelyable to create a society free of dengueoutbreaks in Lanrisang, Pinrang.
