The act of removing the rock debris derived
by weathering process of external agencies
is called Erosion.
The removing the rock debris and deposited
elsewhere is called deposition
Erosion
DEPOSITION
Factors influencing Erosion
Amount of water
Speed of the flowing water
Hardness of rock
Slope of the land
Erosional landforms by Running water
The inclined surface on both side of the
river are called valleys
The down cutting of the river is faster than
lateral cutting
Valley take v shape
V shaped valley
V shaped valley
Canyons are very long narrow valley
It found in Arizona in United states of
America
Formed by the erosive action of Colorado
river
One of the national park in America
446 km long, 6-29 km wide, depth 1830
m
Grand canyon
Grand canyon in US
The waterfall vertically down from the steep sides on the hilly region. E.g.. Jog waterfall in Karnataka
Waterfall
Jog falls
DEPOSITIONAL WORK
OF RIVER
During the monsoon season ,when the river
overflow its banks there is flooding. As a
result of this , there is a deposits of silts on
the banks. This evolve as flood plains
Flood plain
The speed of the river decreases when it
reaches the flood plains so the river twist
and turns which occur thus are called
meanders
Meandering
A crescent shape lake formed when a
meander of a river or stream is cut off from
the main stream
Changing course of river
Oxbow Lake
When rivers brings materials along with it
which gets deposited near to the mouth of
the rivers the formations of a delta.
It look like the Greek letter delta (∆)
Eg. Sunderban delta in India
