INTRODUCTION TO HERBSBotanically, a herb is a plant, more or less soft or succulent, mostly grown from seed without developing woody tissue. However, such a definition would exclude many wonderful herbs like rosemary, chaste tree and lemon verbena, to name a few. In the broad sense, a herb can be any plant that is used by man for food, flavoring, medicine, aroma, dye, or any other use. Note, that I have included foods as herbs. The more I research plants, whether they provide luscious fruits, nutritious root vegetables or leafy greens, I have come to see that they not only provide sustenance and nutrients, but also provide healing qualities.Herbs have been the main source of medicine throughout human history. That they are still widely used today is not a throwback to the Dark Ages but an indication that herbs are a growing part of modern, high-tech medicine: about 25-30 percent of today's prescription drugs contain chemicals derived from plants. Researchers today examine folk or historical uses of plants to find new drugs for cancer, AIDS, and even the common cold.

ALFALFADONE & PRESENTED BY CHRISTINA

Alfalfa is aperennialforagelegumewhich normally lives four to eight years, but can live more than 20 years, depending on variety andclimate. The plant grows to a height of up to 1m (3.3ft), and has a deep root system, sometimes stretching more than 15m (49ft).This makes it very resilient, especially to droughts.

Alfalfa is a small-seeded crop, and has a slowly growing seedling, but after several months of establishment, forms a tough "crown" at the top of the root system. This crown contains many shoot buds that enable alfalfa to re-grow many times after being grazed or harvested.

Mankind has known for a longer period of time that aloe vera is good for lightening of the skin. Its argued that Cleopatra who is known for her amazing and attractive beauty actually also used aloe vera to make her skin glow and lighten.

Aloe vera is manufactured in various and different forms. One of the most usual forms is the simple aloe vera gel that is found in cosmetic shops. Usually individuals have this gel in their places to help treating of minor injuries or sunburns. The aloe vera gel can also be used to lighten the skin naturally fast. It is regarded effective, safe and healthy unlike inorganic skin lighteners that may be harmful to the skin.

The reason aloe vera is used in many skin whitening products is that it contains a substance called Lignin. This is a substance that helps to moisturize the skin. Lignin also assists the skin to stay elastic, and not become rough and tight. This ingredient is also suitable for the removal of pimple marks from face

Aloe vera also has a compound known as Anthraquinones that assists in removal of dead cells and brightening of the skin while at the same time healing the irritation of the skin like as rashes or even acne.

The other thing that requires to be noted is that aloe vera plant has both an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. This implies that it is able to kill the bacteria that grows on the skin, thus keeping it healthier.

The answer is that it depends on various factors. The health of the skin, how much amount of the aloe vera that is used, the quality of the aloe vera used, the age of the applying person, and many other factors affect the speed of expected results.

Generally, you can observe clearly the results within a few weeks with regard to lightening of the skin. But, it is able to only take a few days to notice reduction in skin blemishes, and a brighter glow to the skin.

The dermatologist can recommend giving the aloe vera for a period of at least 4 to 6 weeks before it is decided if it is working for you or not.

aloe vera is also found in pill form. Some people have had serious side effects when the herb is taken in the form of pills. Some research studies reveals that inflammation, caused by accumulation of toxins in the liver and kidneys, and can even cause death if it is ingested for longer periods of time.

Also, you should understand that latex comes from the same aloe vera plant being our subject here. Some individuals are however allergic to latex as it can cause a rash to their skin or diarrhea.

Some health dotors claim through studies that aloe vera juice that is found in the local market is extremely of help to the body. Others researchers however point out that it is not as good as it is claimed.

it is still debatable as to whether ingesting aloe vera is a good idea. There are various side effects that associated with such a move. Thats why it is recommended that you only use aloe vera gel- not juice- when it comes to skin bleaching.

Even though aloe vera is a known home remedy for skin lightening, it is not a primary recommendation for skin bleaching. However, it is suggested that you give a try to a good like Epibright.

Epibright is all-natural, top-rated product by clients, and has a good history with proven results. It is specifically made to whiten and brighten the skin.

Its fleshy green leaves, which can grow to about 12-19 inches (30-50 cm) in length.1. Aloe vera thick -short-stemmed - stores water in leaves widely used in cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food industries - estimated annual market value - $13 billion globally . Each leaf - full of slimy tissue - stores water -makes the leaves thick known as gel - associate with Aloe-vera products. gel contains - bioactive compounds in the plant - vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants.

2.Antioxidants are important for health. contains powerful antioxidants - belong to large family of substances polyphenols - help inhibit growth of certain bacteria that can cause infections in humans.

3. Applying Aloe-vera to burn wounds appears to accelerate the healing process.A review of four experimental studies found that Aloe vera could reduce the healing time of burns by around 9 days compared to conventional medication. The evidence for Aloe vera helping to heal other types of wounds is inconclusive. For instance, in a battle, an arrow hurt Alexander the Great. He was healed by a priest who used Aloe Vera gel squeezed from the leaves of the plant on the wound.

5. Early evidence suggests that Aloe vera may have anti-aging effects on the skin, but more research is needed. There is some preliminary evidence that topical Aloe vera gel can slow aging of the skin.In one study, they found that Aloe vera can reduce erythema(redness of the skin), but was also found to dehydrate skin cells. There is very little evidence that Aloe vera can treat skin conditions like psoriasis and radiation dermatitis.

6. pure Aloe vera juice - effective at reducing dental plaque - buildup regular mouthwash. Tooth decay and diseases of the gum - common health problems. After 4 days of use, the Aloe vera mouth rinse was found to be just as effective as chlorhexidine in reducing dental plaque.Aloe vera does this by killing the plaque-producing bacterium Streptococcus mutants in the mouth, as well as the yeast Candida albicans.

7. Aloe vera latex has strong laxative effects, making it useful to treat constipation. It does not appear to be beneficial for other diseases of the digestive tract.

8. Aloe vera has sometimes been used as a traditional diabetes remedy.

It is said to enhance insulin sensitivity and help improve blood sugar management.

Several animal and human studies in type 2 diabetics have actually found promising results from consuming Aloe vera extract.

However, the quality of these studies was fairly poor, so it is definitely premature to recommend Aloe vera for this purpose.

Additionally, there have been some cases of liver damage reported with long-term ingestion of Aloe vera supplements.

9. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a digestive disorder that often results in symptoms including heartburn. A recent review explains that consuming 1 to 3 once of aloe gel at mealtimes could reduce the severity of GERD and other digestion-related problems. The plants low toxicity makes it a safe and gentle remedy.

10. A few types of soap have aloe vera as its natural ingredient, as it both heals the skin and thoroughly kills bacteria. These soaps are the perfect way in cleaning and brightening the body without drying out the skin

Withania somnifera, also known as ashwagandha, Indian ginseng, poison gooseberry, or winter cherry, is a plant in the Solanaceae or nightshade family.Several other species in the genus Withania are morphologically similar. It is used as a herb in Ayurvedic medicine

It grows as a short shrub (3575cm) with a central stem from which branches extend radially in a star pattern (stellate) and covered with a dense matte of wooly hairs (tomentose).

The flowers are small and green , while the ripe fruit is orange-red and has milk-coagulating properties.

The plant's long, brown, tuberous roots are used for medicinal purposes.

Ashwagandha in Sanskrit means "horse's smell" (ashwa- horse, gandha- smell), probably originating from the odour of its root which resembles that of a sweaty horse.

The species name somnifera means "sleep-inducing" in Latin

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The main chemical constituents are alkaloids and steroidal lactones. These include tropine and cuscohygrine.

The leaves contain the steroidal lactones, withanolides, notably withaferin A, which was the first withanolide to be isolated from W. somnifera.

In Ayurveda, the berries and leaves of W. somnifera are locally applied to tumors, tubercular glands, carbuncles, and ulcers.

The roots of W. somnifera are used to prepare the herbal remedy ashwagandha, which has been traditionally used to treat various symptoms and conditions .
