HEPWIN2003A, B, C & DHEPWIN2003A (lab 8) & HEPWIN2003B (lab 6) Viglen workstations• Active directory & PDD DNS

– Active Directory stores information about objects on the network and makes this information easy for administrators and users to find and use. - Servers, workstations, laptops, printers.

– Group Policy enables me to change system settings from a centralized location - install applications, change settings (security options, networking, registry changes)

– e.g pointing laptops at Space Science WSUS (Windows Server Update Service)

HEPWIN2003C Viglen workstation memory upgraded 4GB• Sophos console – servers, workstations, and laptops• Update Expert – workstations (Thursday evenings) & servers • HfNetChk – patching verification tool

PPD networking (subnets 40~43)Current configuration • Currently 1gb fibre network comes in to PPD via R1 Lab 11, which also servers PPD ground floor labs at 100Mb. • 1gb fibre then connects to R1 2-42 network racks which services your offices at 100Mb.• 1gb fibre from R1 2-42 then connects to R1 Lab 8 server room at 1000Mb (1GB).

What I’m in the process of doing

• New Nortel network hardware in all 3 locations– Managed by central networking– Site wide preferred hardware - Spare devices\redundancy in case of failure.

• Have 1gb fibre going directly into R1 Lab 11 from Router A (Nortel 5510). – Apart of central networking stack VLAN for labs on ground floor.

• Have 1gb fibre going directly into R1 Lab 8 server room from Router A (Nortel 5530).• R1 Lab 8 will feed Nortel stack R1 2-42 fibber at 1gb.

– A stack of 3 * Nortel 5510 & 1 * Nortel 5520 (Power Over Ethernet) (192 network ports)

• With the current CAT 5 cables this has the capability of running up to 1gb to the ports in your office. (downgraded if you have old hubs\switches, workstations, or your network cables have been split.)
