School Partners A non profit health organization. This organization was associated

with the school of medicine in the city. It is a an out reach program that assisted with the prevent of diabetes an hyper-tension in at risk communities. They sponsored health care events and prevention activities.

A collaboration between a community based initiatives and a local church. Members of the community and the local church worked with eh school to develop a school based after school care program. From 2:30 to 5:15 pm students were supervised, assisted with homework and engaged in constructive activities Monday thought free of charge. Parents or relatives where required to donate at least 4 hour per month of volunteer hours.

A health care facility. The facility provided health information to staff, students and parents thought workshops and classroom presentations The facility also supported student academic awards and other community events such as the father son banquets.

School Partners A non profit foundation. This organization sponsored the

one-hundred book challenge The purpose was to increase student reading by proving rotating libraries of books and rewarding students who meet there reading goal.

A suburban Elementary school. Through the partner school's PTA the case school was provided Books

A health care agency . The agency donated books and computers to the case school. The agency also sent tutors to read with student and help them with homework

A local Church. The church provide supplies to needy students,provided refreshments for school parities and volunteers to work in the school cafeteria.

School Partners A local convenience store. The manager provided

arts and crafts for students to use on "Children's Day" . The manage also volunteer in classrooms and was a member of the PTSA.

Nursing Home and Reblhvaitivion Center The case schools students provided cards and decoration for the residents of the center. They also visited the center and spent time with the residents.

A Community Member. He visited to talk with students about poison prevention

According to the community partners the school's visible comment to students learning was one of the key factors that attracted them to partnering with the school.

The ATP's do the day to day work of coordinating and communicating with the partners and they regularly meet with the partners and the principal to review their efforts and keep all parties informed.

But the school not only makes partners feel welcome it recognizes their assistance with verbal praise, letters, certificates and awards.

As one community partner said “ I don't want to come in and dictate anything.....I also don't want anyone to tell me, this is what we are doing get on board or get out. That to me is the biggest turn off. What is important is dialogue”.
