Using Camstudio

Download the free Camstudio software from http://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/ and install.

When you find streaming video you want to capture, use the “Region” option on the menu to draw a box around the portion of the screen you want to use.

Use “Fixed Region,” “Select” to draw a rectangle around the section of the display you want to capture. You will have the ability to move this square after you begin recording.

Set Camstudio to Record, using the red circle to begin your screen capture, and then play your online streaming video – remember that you can “trim” the beginning and the end of the video in Movie Maker. Then move your streaming video the front, and leave the Camstudio controls accessible by the task menu.

When the segment you want to incorporate in finished, use the task menu to access Camstudio (which should read “CamStudio”, not the task reading “Flashing”).

Use the blue box to stop recording. When you stop recording, you will be given an option where to save your video. Remember to keep your files in one place. You can now pull the video into MovieMaker, but it will generally be grainier than video downloaded directly.
