Acute and Focused

The acute focus on each area of the curriculum ensures a skills-based approach to learning. This acute focus provides detailed assessment of students’ progress.

Sequential, Guided Learning

The sequential structure of the activities ensures that the learning experience is guided and graded in difficulty to foster independence in students.

Thinking Skills

Thinking Skills are embedded within the activities – an essential element of independent learning. In the example below, the thinking-skill of hierarchy is being tested to develop students’ ability to sequence questions from generic to specific.

Variety of ActivitiesThe variety of activities is also an important element of ActiveLearn. This variety also ensures different thinking skills are being developed – in this case the skill of patterns.

Exam Practice

The automatically-assessed exam practice is a powerful element of ActiveLearn. This exam-practice ensures the application of learning and, in turn, provides teachers with

a RAG-rated assessment of students’ progress in a specific area of the curriculum.

Learning Aids

Learning Aids are another unique feature of ActiveLearn. These aids appear on each exercise and combine audio, visual and text to support independence and success.

Assessment Tools

Results are automatically RAG-rated by class and individual students. Below is an example of the RAG-rating for my 10 C/D borderline group.

Assessment Tools

Here is an example of the RAG-rating for an individual student in my 10 C/D borderline group. Notice the pie-chart which details the student’s success in meeting

deadlines (good to track homework).

Assessment Tools

You can also see which students are achieving their target grade. The RAG-rated system alerts you to fragile students. You can then drill down to diagnose issues.

Assessment Tools

The RAG-rating for my fragile student, Jay Dancock, alerts me to the fact that Jay is weak in the skills of comparison. This allows me to personalise Jay’s learning.
