The energy conversion efficiency of the system is relatively high. From 300t/day municipal solid waste generated from 300.000 people with a calorific value 1500 it is possible to obtain 80t/day briquetted feedstock with an enriched calorific value at 4500kcal/kg. From the organic fraction of the same inlet 35ton/day A quality compost is obtained. Location: Odayeri, Kemerburgas 40 km North of Istanbul
15.00 -‐17.00 Gebze: Visit of the Tractebel/UNIT Enerji combined cycle power plant
Unit Investment, in partnership with Italy's Ansaldo Energia, has closed the financing of the 865MW Gebze CCGT IPP to be established 60 km outside of Istanbul. The 1 billion USD Project is expected to go online by the end of 2013 in a particularly congested area of the national grid and provide power to the neighboring industrial establishments as well as the metropolis of Istanbul. To be constructed by Ansaldo Energia acting as the EPC contractor, the plant is expected to achieve 57.9% efficiency.

ENERGY SECTOR IN TURKEY The Turkish energy sector is widely seen as the most promising and attractive field of investment in the Turkish economy.
The market experiences a transition into a competitive market structure in order to attract private sector investments.
The energy market is witnessing rapid growth and liberalization process with the recent privatizations, licensing tenders and strategic partnerships.
The sector has been remarkably active recently and offers major opportunities to investors.
The Turkish electricity market is one of the fastest growing in the world. Installed capacity has continued to rise regularly between 1998 and 2009 from 23,354 MW to 44,766 MW respectively.
Economic Mission led by HRH Prince Philippe to Turkey PowerGen & Renewable Energy Track _____________________________ 5
In line with the increase in the number of natural gas fired power plants and hydro electric plants, both constitute the highest share in energy resources with 34% each, followed by hard coal and lignite forming 24% together.
In the past 5 years, Turkey has accommodated an efficient investment environment as many foreign investors have made greenfield investments, formed partnerships with local players and acquired state-owned and private companies.
Turkey has also a significant potential for renewable energy. Due to substantial renewable energy resources and recent developments in renewables legislation and liberalization in the electricity market, there is a suitable environment for renewable energy investments. The renewable energy sector is further analyzed in ISPAT’s “Environmental Technologies and Renewable Energy Industry Report”.
