1. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

When creating my magazine I came to the conclusion of sticking to the normal conventions most music magazines use.

For example I used large image, banner like title at the top etc.

For my final version of my front cover I decided to use the colours blue and yellow. These colours are attention grabbing and draw the buyers in.

I also looked at a lot of different music magazines and found out the normal conventions with stand in most front covers e.g. Q, Kerrang! NME

The main conventions I followed were large photograph, masthead, coverlines, price, date, barcode, website.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My magazine represents the teenage social groups, mainly the ones that are into music and like attending festivals.

My magazine reflects either male or female by it's colours and font types, this making it a wider variety of audience.

My magazine represents middle class (ABC1) this is reflected by it's price and also content. This helps me to get a wider variety of audience.

My title of 'voice' is very young and also shows it's a music magazine I have produced. It is also short and snappy and encourages teenagers to buy the magazine.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Voice is a mainstream magazine and this concludes the publisher to being something like EMAP or Bauer.

MY magazine is also made to appeal to the middle class, this means it would be sold in such local places as Morrisons or Tescos etc. I would sell it in these places as it would be open to my audience to buy in these areas and also these are popular areas where many things can be brought.

Once researching the prices of music magazines I came to the conclusion of selling my magazine fro £2.50.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product and why?

My original target audience was ages 15 upwards but then I found it to grow into a more mature content and this age group would not be interested, so I then put the age up to 17upwards.

I also asked my teacher to look at my front cover and see if he could recognise the target audience I was aiming for.

My content featured various information which would be crucial for teenagers of this age, such as the best festivals to attend etc.

I wanted it to be unisex as I could widen my variety of music used and also font colours etc.

I progressed with my front cover as I began with a calligraphy writing title then decided it looked too stereotypical 'girly' then changed it to a graffiti like style.

These are the two different fonts I used, showing my progression to widen my audience.

5. How did you attract/ address your audience?

I attracted my audience by using the different conventions to fit the different customer.

When I got my questionnaire results I found out the audience found it crucial to have the main elements such as title, date, price etc clear on the front cover. This then made it clear for my to reflect through out my cover and make it as compatible for my audience as possible,

I made it clear that my magazine was appropriate for both sexes with my fonts and colours, this helping to attract and address my audience.

I also used rhetorical questions within my magazine to get a close connection with the reader.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

This process has entailed me to learn how to use photoshop, mainly the cropping of photographs and using the magic wand to help me decrease things and backgrounds.

I also learnt about such internet sites as Dafont.com and how you can print screen and then paste them onto word. This helps me to brainstorm fonts from my titles etc.

When creating my project photographs I also used such technology as a digital camera to create my photographs, this helped my to learn about uploading photographs and change them on photoshop etc.

This shows the website I got most of my fonts from also it shows a window of me using photoshop on my front cover.

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? In the draft of my magazine I used word and copied photographs either off the internet or previous ones I have already taken, this defeated the object of photohop and progressing with my photographs.

When I moved on to creating my real magazine I realised this would not be enough to make a realistic magazine so I learnt how to use photoshop and create a image where I have cut round the selected area.

I also found various websites which had lots of fonts etc which I can use to widen the appearance of my titles and writing

The school magazine I created was not as professional as the music magazine as I took more time and effort with photoshop and also the content topics of the magazine was thought about more as I had done more research into what the audience want.

This shows my progression from the original image and then once it had been cropped.
