Page 3: Poverty As A Challenge

What is Poverty? Poverty is hunger.

Poverty is lack of shelter. Poverty is being sick and

not being able to see a doctor.

Poverty is not having

access to school and not knowing how to read.

Poverty is not having a

job, is fear for the future, living one day at a time.

Poverty is losing a child to illness brought about by unclean water.

Poverty is powerlessness,

lack of representation and freedom.

Poverty in India-Causes

Page 6: Poverty As A Challenge

Even more than 50 years after independence from almost two centuries of British rule, large scale poverty remains the most shameful blot on the face of India.

Page 8: Poverty As A Challenge

India still has the world’s largest number of poor people in a single country. Of its nearly 1 billion inhabitants, an estimated 350-400 million are below the poverty line, 75 per cent of them in the rural areas.

More than 40 per cent of the population is illiterate, with women, tribal and scheduled castes particularly affected.

Population

Page 10: Poverty As A Challenge

Population, if continues to increase at the same rate, it will destroy the country. Lack of initiative by the govt.

Together with sleeping people of India are

responsible for this destructive problem. People are not realizing the problem.

One day the result will be riots, fighting over food, water. India will be the largest slums creater.

I think after 20 years, India will not be the place to live.

According to UNICEF, 30,000 children die each day due to poverty. And they “die quietly in some of the poorest villages on earth, far removed from the scrutiny and the conscience of the world.

That is about 210,000 children each week, or just under 11 million children under five years of age, each year.
