A"er comple+ng this workshop, students will begin to think about their career development and learn how to follow a cohesive, step;by;step resume and cover le=er wri+ng process to avoid feeling overwhelmed and get the most out of their job search. 1: Self Assessment & Research Students will complete self assessment exams to determine skills, values, strengths and weaknesses and will begin researching fields of interest. 2: Brainstorming & Assessment Evalua;on Based on assessment and research results, students will iden+fy skills and past experiences that they want to include in the resume and cover le=er. 3: Forma>ng & Development Student will choose an acceptable resume format from the Career Planning Handbook and highlight their skills, major responsibili+es, and goals achieved. 4:Tailoring & Priori;zing Students will use the job descrip+on and employer jargon to tailor the resume and cover le=er to the specific posi+on and/or company. • Students will highlight their relevant skills on the resume and draw a connec+on to the posi+on in the cover le=er. • Students will develop a resume that is clear, concise and consistent and is free of errors. • Counselor will ini+ate a brainstorming session so students can think about their skills and experiences • Teacher will introduce the STAR method for students to begin formula+ng resume bullets. • Students will break into small groups and cri+que each other’s resumes and cover le=ers. • If students are adequately prepared for job searching, it will reflect posi+vely on career services and the university. • If the career services department develops a reputa+on for helping students get jobs and internships, it could impact enrollment, reten+on rates, and ranking. • Counselor will follow up with students a"er the workshop to see if their applica+on materials have been successful in helping them get interviews.
