Acknowledgements

We’d like to say muito obrigado/many thanks to each and every person who took

part of this collaborative project and helped spread the word about it over the` inter-

net. The collective effort of all the special Strangers shown here was crucial to bring

this book to life! Muito obrigado! We’re so proud to be part of this amazing commu-

nity of people whose lives have also been touched in so many levels by the beautiful

sounds created by Tim Rice–Oxley, Tom Chaplin, Richard Hughes and Jesse Quin.

A special obrigado to the band Keane for the mind–blowing & inspiring collec-

tion of songs, the magnificent live concerts, for being such incredible human beings,

so kind and considerate to the fans, for all the encouraging words… and especially

for shining a bright light into the lives of the people who are lucky enough to con-

nect to your music and are able to experience pure moments of happiness and joy.

We really hope you guys enjoy going through this book, having a glimpse of the

lands where some of these lucky Strangers live and what we have to say to you. Mui-

to obrigado for *everything*!

Preface

We live many lives, our minds wander around different realities. All of a sud-

den, conceptions and conventions turn into questionings, we are adrift in a tide of

uncertainty.

Along the way, we try to find things we love, things that are worth living for.

Some of us hold onto music. Music bears the power to bring into being what is ab-

sent, to evoke distant places and times.

The beautiful music of Keane evokes a world that resonates with our souls: the

Strangeland. It is a land filled with echoing emotions, hopes and fears. It is a beacon

of inspiration for us all. A place where we find ourselves, somewhere that reminds us

of how our existence can be a meaningful and fascinating journey, and how life is

filled with valuable lessons and experiences that should never be taken for granted.

In the Strangeland, different people from different lands find themselves strongly

connected to each other. We are all strangers, but strangers in our own land.

About the organisers

Aline Shinzato: I am a Brazilian stranger who lives in Sao

Paulo. I’ve been a huge Keane fan since 2009, when I first had

the chance to see them live. I’m an art enthusiast, and I’m cur-

rently taking an undergraduate course in Visual Arts. However,

my biggest passion is music, which is the major source of in-

spiration for everything I do.

Since Keane became part of my world, I have lived beauti-

ful and memorable moments along with dear friends from The

Frog Prince Squad. I am thankful to Keane and their wonderful

sound for all the good things they have brought into my life.

Denise Yumi & Walter Luiz: We have fallen in love with

Keane’s music in 2004, after listening to Everybody’s Chang-

ing and Somewhere Only We Know playing on the radio. Since

then our love for this band has only grown and pretty much

everything that involves Keane in our lives equals to memo-

rable moments, happiness and inspiration. We’ve made many

friends who share the same passion for this wonderful band

along the way, especially after joining The Frog Prince Squad

in 2009, which is an amazing bunch of people!

The “world of Keane” has inspired us to do things we’ve

never done before, from recording songs in a studio to writing

a script for a short movie with our friend Aline. Keane’s music

has been the soundtrack of our best years yet and we dare to

say that it’s become part of us, of who we are today.

Other things we love in life are books, movies, travelling,

cats, coffee and playing music for fun. We both work in the

book publishing industry and live in Sao Paulo with our cats.
