Upon completion of the FAFSA, the Federal

Government issues the student and Expected Family

Contribution (EFC). Based on parent(s) income, parent(s) non-retirement assets, student

income, and student assets The EFC is how much the federal government believes your family can

afford to send your student to school

Regardless of varying college tuition rates, the EFC will

be the same for each college.Financial Need = College Costs – EFCIt is possible to have a “need” at some schools and not

others.
