1. SVPISTM- PIONEER IN TEXTILE MANAGEMENT EDUCATION

Ministry of Textiles, Govt.of India has promoted Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles & Management (SVPISTM), in Coimbatore with the purpose to promote Textiles and Management Education in the country so as to cater the growing need of professionals of Textile Industry. SVPISTM is first of its kind in India promoted by the Central Government in Coimbatore. The school is strategically located at Coimbatore, the region widely acknowledged as having the largest concentration of textile related activities in the world. The proximity to the textile industry offers a unique opportunity to the students in gaining first-hand knowledge of the industry by interacting with several leading experts from the industry. The Institute believes in an optimal blend of western intelligence, management and technology skills with values of India. 2. Programmes offered by SVPISTM

1. Two-year (Full Time) Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Textiles)

2. Two-year (Full Time) Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Apparels)

3. Two year (Full Time) Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Retail Management)

Eligibility:

A graduate from any discipline (recognized by UGC / AICTE) with a minimum of 15 years (10+2+3) of education and having 50 percent or above (45 percent or above for SC/ST/DAP*) aggregate marks at the graduation level can apply for admission. The percentage of aggregate marks is to be calculated as per the practice followed by the concerned university or institution. In case the university/institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by SVPISTM by dividing obtained CGPA with the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant with 100. Those who are in their final

year and who expect to complete all the requirements of graduation before August 15, 2015 can also apply.

SVPISTM encourages applications from applicants with diverse academic backgrounds.

2.1. Two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Textiles)

A two year full time course, PGDM [Textiles] is designed to offer core management learning for textile professionals. Addressing the growing complexity and competition of textile business, this program provides the right synergy of technology and management aligned to the specific needs of textile industry. The course runs through four semesters. The first two semesters comprise of fundamental management training with specific application in textile industry. This is complemented with industrial interaction, seminars, projects etc. The third semester takes the student through the advanced areas of textile industry management. In the fourth and final semester an internship and the focus on the functional areas of Textile management to provide the finishing touch in a way of thorough knowledge and understanding in specific domain. An extensive industry based project is carried out between 2nd and 3rd

semester.

2.2Two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Apparels)

The two-year full time course, PGDM [Apparel], is oriented to the needs of fast growing apparel industry covering knitting and garment clusters in the country. Creating a cadre of specialized professionals with technical and managerial knowledge is the objective of this course. The course is divided into two modules. The first module deals with basic textiles, knitting technology and fundamentals of management. The second module comprises of an advanced study of apparel, marketing, finance, human resources and retail aspects of managing apparel industry, interspersed with a field project to provide a comprehensive knowledge of theoretical and practical facets of the Industry.

2.3. Two year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Retail Management)

The two year full time course is focused as a professional program in retailing designed for the benefit of students seeking career opportunities in the realm of Retail Management. The programme equips the students with expertise in efficient handling of retail operations, effective formulation of retail strategies, developing innovative CRM approaches in retailing along with wide exposure on the contemporary issues in International Retailing. Students who successfully complete the course may seek exciting career opportunities in several fields of retailing including Retail Designing, Logistics Management, Retail Supply Chain, Channel and Categor y Management.

3. ADMISSION PROCEDURE –SVPISTM

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management is mandated to create the finest managers for the Indian Textiles Industry; Since inception, the institute is conducting an entrance test (Sadar Vallabhbhai Patel – Management Admission Test ) to select the most appropriate candidate for Textile, Apparel and Retail Management education. SVP-MAT is designed to assess the aptitude of candidates for future business success. The test score is a partial assessment for meritorious scholarships and admission. SVP –MAT (2015) would be conducted in offline / online mode across various cities of India. The pattern along with rules and regulations are as follows:

Students qualified in other aptitude tests like MAT, CAT, XAT, TANCET, etc. is exempted for SVP-MAT. But to avail the SVPISTM Scholarship (Refer Clause No.4), qualifying in the SVP- MAT admission test is compulsory.

3.1 SVP-MAT PROCEDURE

SVP-MAT (2015) question paper is designed to assess the capability of the candidates for admission. The Question paper will have 100 objective type questions 25 questions each from the following areas. Each question will be followed by four alternative answers and the candidate has to choose the correct answer.

1) Quantitative Aptitude

2) Reasoning

3) English

4) General Knowledge

(1). Quantitative Aptitude: Evaluate the candidate‟s numerical ability and problem solving skills and apply the data to business decisions from given typical business situations.

Number Systems and Number Theory, Percentages, Profit and Loss, Simple & Compound Interest, Speed, Time and Distance, Time and work, Averages, Ratio, Proportion, Logarithm, Progressions - AP, GP, HP, Permutation & Combination, Probability, mathematical problems at graduate level (including those learnt in plus two or equivalent level).

(2).Reasoning: Measures the candidate‟s ability to interpret, analyze, and draw logical conclusions based on numerical data presented in graphs and tables. Number and Letter Series, Calendars, Clocks, Binary Logic Seating Arrangement, Logical Sequence, Logical Matching, Logical Connectives, Syllogism, Blood Relations.

(3). English: To test the knowledge on written English with questions on errors in usage, grammar, punctuations and the like. Vocabulary Based (Synonyms Antonyms), English Usage or Grammar, Sentence Correction, Fill in the blanks, Cloze Passage, Jumbled Paragraph, Meaning- Usage, Match, Summary Questions, Verbal Reasoning, Facts /Inferences / Judgments, Reading Comprehension.

(4). General Knowledge: To evaluate the knowledge of candidate in current affairs, history and general knowledge.

Candidate desires to take admission in the SVPISTM need to successfully qualify in the SVP- MAT 2015 admission test. The result of the test will be displayed in the institute website The short listed candidates will be called to the institute campus (Coimbatore) or selected cities in India for GD and PI and final selection. Following weightages are given for the final selection of candidates.

The final qualified and shortlisted candidates‟ names will be displayed in the website and communicated individually for admission.

3.2 ANSWER SHEET HANDLING:

For Offline SVP–MAT (2015) is a paper pencil based objective type multiple choice question paper. The candidate has to choose the correct answer and shade the corresponding small open box provided for that question in the answer sheet with either a HB pencil or a ball point pen (blue or black). If more than one open box is shaded for any question, then it will be treated as wrong answer. When changes are to be made in the answer sheet, the initial pencil shading must be erased completely before shading the new open box. Improper and light shading may result in wrong evaluation.

For Online test, the candidates should have understanding of basic computer knowledge and other procedural details will be communicated later.

4. SVP –MAT SCHOLARSHIP

Eligible candidates seeking for admission at SVPISTM for the year 2015-16 have the provision to avail the Scholarship up to Rs.40,000 /- in the first year based on the overall scores earned in the above mentioned in 3.1 SVP-MAT admission procedure . The scholarship is available for 50% of the candidates on the meritorious basis in the first year. Scholarship in the second year up to Rs. 40,000 /- will be provided based on the Academic and Attendance records in the first year. SVP-MAT admission test is compulsory for Scholarship.

4.2.PROGRAMME FEE

The PGDM course fee for both 1st & 2nd year is approximately Rs. 2, 10, 000/- (Two lakh Ten Thousand). Additional amount of Rs. 20,000 /- (Twenty Thousand) will be collected in 4th semester, in case student wants to pursue MBA in parallel with PGDM. The course fees can be paid in semester wise.

Hostel boarding and lodging expenses are Rs. 5000/- per month at present.

Institute has MOU with IDBI bank and will facilitate the process of getting loan from the bank.

5. SVPISTM –CAMPUS

5.1.Human Resources

The SVPISTM faculty comprises experienced scholars, practitioners and Industry experts of national and international repute. They represent a wide range of disciplines, such as the various functional areas of management and Textiles. (marketing, finance, strategy, information technology, operations, organizational behaviour and human resources), Staff members

5.2. Performance Evaluation System

The evaluation of student‟s s performance in the programme is a continuous process affording an opportunity for frequent and regular corrections.

(i) All assessment of a subject will be done on mark basis. The Performance Analysis

Committee which shall meet within three weeks after the completion of all examinations shall analyse the performance of students in all assessments (continuous and semester) of a subject and decide the letter grade ranges for the subject.

5.3 Library

SVPISTM LIBRARY

The Academic library has been described as the “heart” of the learning community, providing a place for students and faculty to do their research and advance their knowledge. SVPISTM Library strives for a high quality of library service, which emphasizes the actual delivery of information rather than the actual delivery of documents to meet the generic as well as specific needs of users. LIBSYS software system is used with barcode scanning facility for computerized

circulation system and all other housekeeping activities. It uses state-of-the-art technology in its functioning and services.

The SVPISTM Library has a rich collection of books on Textile Technology, Management, Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and General. This collection includes Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Reference Books, Textbooks, Manuals, Back volumes, Project reports, Compact Discs, and Audio and Video cassettes. Now SVPISTM library has 6500 volumes with 3878 titles. Apart from the subject books, GATE, CAT, GMAT, GRE, IELTS, TOEFL and Civil Service Exam books are available in the Library.

Online Databases PROQUEST (ABI/INFORM complete) and Capitaline are subscribed by SVPISTM Library and arranged for the access to whole campus through LAN. We subscribe more than 80 National and International printed journals and magazines for the enhancement of academic community.

5.4 Information Technology Laboratory

The Computer facilities include Local Area Workstations with continuous Internet access to all machines Windows and Linux Operating S ystem environments. The center has specific Studios for different computer applications. The Laboratory is equipped with latest Textile Design and Garment Design Software.

5.5 Hostel Facilities

SVPISTM provides Hostel facility for both boys and Girls inside the premises with very good arrangement of Cafeteria and Wi-Fi facility. Students staying in the Hostel have very good access to the Internet and Library facilities of the Institute. The Institute being located in the heart of the Coimbatore city and on the famous commercial National Highway (Avanashi Raod) has excellent public transport facilities and very good accessibility to Railway station and Airport.

5.6 Placement Cell

A separate Placement Cell of SVPISTM has Placement Coordinator and a committee comprising of Faculty and Student Coordinators.

Placement cell continuously interacts with the leading textile manufacturing companies; export units, overseas buying houses etc., to arrange Industrial visits, Internship Training, Real time Projects , Project cum Placements, Campus Interviews and Final Placements with the Textile organizations all over the country and International. The placement office with all necessary infrastructures at the Institute consists of three coordinators each from faculty and students. Students coordinators of the Cell are trained to handle the various activities of the Placement cell. The Committee meets often in planning and scheduling the various placement activities. Placement Readiness programs and various soft skill development Programs are organized on continuous basis by the Placement cell for the personality and skill development of the individual students and better performance in the campus interviews.

With the acquired technical & managerial knowledge and skills provided by the Placement cell, students of this institute are well placed in high positions at Corporate Textile industries and also with Govt. sectors (Textile departments) with very high salary packages.

5.7 Skill enhancement Program for employability

Students will undergo certain Skill Enhancement Programs in different domain areas depending upon the skill gap assessed in them. Team building and group cohesion programme will be conducted so as to strengthen their inter-personal and communication skills. This may include Personality Development Programmes (PDPs), special verbal/written communication programmes, etc.

5.8 International MoU’s and Projects in other Universities:

International Interaction is part of the Objective of the Institute to promote the quality education, Research and Developments, Consultancy and Students Project. SVPISTM has signed MoU with Saxion University, Netherlands and Technical University, Chech Republic. Student and Faculty exchange programs and Students Research projects are ongoing activities to motivate the students to set into an International Exposure.

5.9. Nodal Centre for Up gradation of Textile Education (NCUTE)

SVPISTM is the current custodian of NCUTE, established by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India with the broad objective of enhancing textile education through improved retraining of teachers, meet the challenges of emerging technology and quality of input, and to establish a dynamic system for reform of textile education in the country to meet with international standards and market demands. SVPISTM is carrying out various activities to achieve the objectives of NCUTE.

5.10. Endowments / Awards

The institute/school contemplates an endowment board to reward meritorious students in their academic endeavour. In connection with this, leading industrialists have agreed to give awards to the topper in the respective courses every year. For outstanding academic performance medals will be presented at the time of the Convocation, subject to the condition that the medal winning student has qualified for the Diploma and has not violated any discipline or has not been charged with misconduct during the programme. The details of various medals will be announced from time to time, but typically would be for the top three rank holders of a programme.

5.11 Student’s Affair Cell (SAC)

The Students Affairs Cell is entrusted with the responsibility to identify and develop the skill of students as well as counsel them for channelizing their energies into right avenues including - identifying the students' individual skill and potential for promoting them to take active

participation in the competition and other programmes / initiatives meant for B-Schools all over the country The cell also has the objective of providing a learning platform to the students through industry institute interaction. Various Guest Lectures by the industry experts and Industrial visits will be organized to learn the industry practices. Students who are demonstrating their skills will be elected as Office Bearers of the SAC immediately after the commencement of Academic activities every year.

1. Students of SVPISTM should actively participate in the activities of SAC 2. All students should attend lecture sessions arranged by SAC 3. Absentees should submit the letter stating the reason for absence to the Faculty Coordinator of

5.12KAVINI- Women Development Forum: KAVINI in the Institute focuses on the holistic development of the women students by organizing various professional and personnel developmental activities for women students of the Institute. KAVINI also has a plan to focus on the women developmental activities for the society.
