NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES

The Networking Programme for delegates, faculty and industry partners started with a Welcome Reception in the exhibit hall at the Dubai World Trade Centre. There were a blend of International and local acts entertaining the guests while they interacted with peers and medical company representatives.

The Gala Dinner was held at the Johara Ballroom at Madinat Jumeirah, giving the event a local touch. What followed was a night filled with entertainment, fun, awards and performances and an international array of dishes to cater to the tastebuds. It was a night to remember for the attendees.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME SUMMARY

The 23rd World Congress of IFSO’s scientific program highlighted the importance of integrated health, by hosting multiple transdisciplinary and integrated health sessions. This year also hosted a joined session with the World of Obesity (WOF).

First ever at IFSO: A Mock Trial was held, were real life lawyers fought for the prosecution and defense of a surgeon, and a judge raised his judgement.A Fencing Match Debate Session took place where faculty battled against each other in bouts on topics of Sleeve Gastrec-tomy in GERD patients, judged by a Jury who scored each fencer on their argumentative skill.A World Bariatric Video Championship session showcased the top 6 videos received, to be scored along the panel of judges to decide the Champion

With 10 postgraduate courses including 5 Industry Symposia, 370 oral abstracts, 171 video abstracts, 561 posters, 3 Top Posters, 10 Top Papers and a Simulation Centre, the scientific programme provided a unique opportunity for all those in-terested in obesity and metabolic surgery to share their experiences, expertise and knowledge and seek practical solutions in their search to eradicate and manage this epidemic.

Registration numbers for IFSO 2018 totalled 2469, a good turnout given that the Congress was being held first time ever in the Gulf Region.

The Congress was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai, United Arab Emirates and it was one to remember for its many firsts. There were a record 1209 of abstracts received, a first time ever Simulation Centre, a fencing match and a World Bariatric Video championship. The Congress was extremely rich in its scientific content, with 10 Pre Congress Post Graduate Courses on 26th September and 5 Parallel Scientific Sessions from the 27th-29th September.
