Sunset Ridge Sunset Ridge received a 2014 Governor's
Distinguished Improvement Award from the Colorado Department of
Education for demonstrating outstanding growth for students three
years in a row. CBS Sunset Ridge students are getting better with
technology and have lots of technology tools that they can use
during the day for individualized learning. Every Sunset Ridge
student has their own Data Notebook which students and teachers use
to help students take ownership of their own learning. Staff works
hard to continuously improve instructional practices. Data Vast
majority of students have shown an increase in their composite
score from BOY to MOY as measured by DIBELS. In Kindergarten: BOY:
51% Red MOY: 13% Red 30 Students recently (Nov-Jan) moved levels in
literacy and/or math. Students We had increased participation in
the Sunset Ridge Science Fair. Every classroom teacher did a
science fair project with their students and entered their project
in the Science Fair. We had a very successful Spelling Bee and
Geography Bee We have compassionate students. Parent Involvement We
had increased participation in the Sunset Ridge Science Fair. Every
classroom teacher did a science fair project with their students
and entered their project in the Science Fair. We had a very
successful Spelling Bee and Geography Bee We have compassionate
students. Staff Interventionist support for students is meeting
student learning needs. Our staff is flexible and does what is
needed to make Sunset Ridge a great place to work and learn. Sunset
Ridge teachers maintain numerous partnerships with local
universities and community groups. Activities Totes for Hope
impacts 15 students weekly with food supplies for the weekend and
12 students received Christmas gifts from community partners. After
school programs are going strong. Forty students participate in
tennis instruction twice a week. Student Council, band and academic
competitions are also very well attended after-school events.
Slide 7
Metz Elementary CBS We are supporting lower students at the
level they need. Students are engaged and excited about activities.
Students are getting better instruction at their instructional
level. Teachers are doing a nice job at differentiating and trying
to hit targets on multiple levels. Students are feeling successful
because of this. Mixed-age classrooms where students are learning
at their instructional level.. Kids are grouped based on ability so
they're with like minded students. Students know where they are at
and are better able to know what needs they still have or need.
They are working harder and striving for success. Teachers are also
making the right adjustments as needed. Students are tracking their
own progress using multiple resources- data notebooks, visual goal
tracking displayed on walls in the classroom Students are working
at their true ability levels and are able to feel more confident in
their peer groups. Data notebooks. Student goal setting, increased
usage of Educate Kids have goals to reach and see more of the
effect of their learning directly (now, not ten years from now). I
am getting more of the data folders live and working with kids now.
Every child benefits from this system. This system makes sure all
students get a quality education. The students learn at their level
which not only helps them learn, but makes it safe to learn. They
don't have to worry that they will be made fun of by the other
students. CBS allows students to show knowledge in a variety of
ways such as projects or other alternative ways. This is especially
helpful for our English Learners who may have content knowledge,
but have not yet mastered the language to demonstrate that in
English. Data Lower students are making a large amount of growth
according to both Scantron and Dibels With all the training on how
to manipulate the data and fully understand it, it is much easier
to determine where the students are and how to meet their needs.
The data wall is helping teacher become more cognizant of student
data, achievement, and goals. It's a nice visual to see how
students are progressing and next steps. Students made good growth
on Scantron, and materials are being aligned to their needs
Students love it! They like knowing where they are and always want
to know what they can do next. When they struggle in something or
see a bad score they also want to know how to fix and improve it.
Data is also driving our instruction a lot more by making sure we
fill in the holes that are missing and reteach if necessary.
Students are making progress- especially as seen on the data wall
with primary reading- way to go! There were a lot of kids making
big gains on Scantron this month. Starting to look at it more often
and use if for lesson planning and grouping Seeing data live helps
us boost our intervention. I love seeing the positive growth!! It
energizes the learners, parents, and us. The data helps us
pin-point the needs for each child. I love that each teacher knows
their students needs better than in the past. Data guides our
teaching, making it actually easier to know what to teach and when
to teach it. We are much stronger in our data discussions and have
visuals such as the data wall to help us celebrate positive
movement!
Slide 8
Metz Elementary Students Aware of their level & taking
ownership of their level. They care! Engaged and actively
participating Feeling more successful, empowered and are learning at
a higher rate. Benefiting from PBS system. Roar Paws-Kids are
talking about ways to earn these and excited. Behavior has improved
due to the paws. They are working harder in class and showing more
improvement academically and behaviorally. We have finally been
able to implement a school-wide positive behavior system and the
students LOVE it! It makes every Friday more fun and will hopefully
boost attendance! Narrowing the gaps in their achievement level
versus where they should be. Trying to work harder in class to get
to the next level and can articulate their learning. Identifying
how practice and paying attention helps them move forward in their
progress. Even work on programs like ixl and Raz- Kids are being
connected to targets so they know the computer time is not "play"
time but "goal" time. Adjusting to the need to test within their
regular school day. Less stress with assessments. More centered and
willing to learn. Great intermediate program at Ranum. Our kids did
a great job and Mrs. Corso has the best music program in the
district. Parent Involvement Conferences-we have more one on one
time to work with parents while exposure to APTT has given a focus
and data portion to the discussion. Parents are present in the
building and want to know what is going on with their kids. Myrian
is doing fantastic work with our parents, and thanks largely to her
efforts, parents are feeling involved and are contributing to our
school community. Parent Leaders-English classes with parents twice
a week., planning dances, contests and parent involvement in
classrooms has also improved. Parents are updated monthly on
students progress and are given materials to use at home to help
students become successful Parents have commented on how much more
progress their student(s) is(are) making this year. Parents are
rewarding students in the school; students know who the parents are
and why they are here Looking forward to sharing more of the data
folders with parents this go-around in conferences. It is good to
see parents in our building. Would love to know who they are by
names to greet them when in the building. I would like a list of
their names and children. Parents make such a big difference in
their children's learning. Our parent hub is wonderful and the most
helpful group that I have ever seen! This is all because of the
time and dedication of Myrian Nowosad...she is the BEST!
Slide 9
Metz Elementary Staff Staff is flexible in adjusting to many
unforeseen changes and needs. Staff is bonding and engaging in
conversations with each other about new and exciting ways to have
fun in the classroom Staff morale has improved over the past year.
Overall, staff is happier despite challenging situations and
students. Still work to be done in this area, but it has improved.
Mr. Esquibel has done an amazing job with the motor lab. Staff is
more willing to be flexible with change. Less complaining and more
doing. Staff appears to be re-energized with ideas of how to help
students succeed. Staff is collaborating on best practices, ways to
organize, etc. Enjoy our meetings once per month to celebrate.
Teachers are working really hard with students who have
accommodations in the classroom and making classrooms flow on a
daily basis. Staff are more focused on goals and targets and less
"fluff" work. Staff are warm and their rooms inviting for the
students. The teachers are willing to share ideas, data and help
with one another. The achievement teams are stronger than ever. An
air of excitement, very rarely do I talk to people that are just
dreading the day and counting down the days until the weekend.
Leadership has been good. Staff has had clear direction on what is
expected. I love that Claudette can stay the course of our journey
even when things are difficult. Great staff always need great
leaders. I think having the car show was a wonderful start to an
annual event for Metz. Customer Service is improving. Activities
Totes for Hope New playground has become a community hub. Karate
Program Metz Tabletop club is running strong with more students
bringing their own games and taking leadership opportunities.
Really enjoying the PD's with Rhonda and Joyce :) Dances, Car Show,
Helicopter landing-red ribbon week, table top club, karate classes.
I love the new team-building staff meetings- it's a nice way for us
to get to know each other in a little bit of a different setting.
Geo bee, spelling bee, and science fair went well. Awards and
certificates for growth. Our specials team is very active this
year. Mr. Esquibel has set up a fantastic motor lab and constantly
changes it to be new and different. Our music department is also
top notch!

Slide 25
Tennyson Knolls CBS Kids are getting their needs met in their
level. We're bringing back the focus of Learning Targets and what
students need to be proficient. Students know what they are working
on and are making some choices regarding their learning. Students'
needs as a learner are more important then passing or failing. We
really look at data and continue to change what we're doing to meet
those needs. Many students are gettig instruction at their level.
"It's Working! :) It has helped and enhanced what I do as a teacher
in a positive way. Kids are getting the instruction they need for
where they are! Intermediate aged students are leveled for literacy
and math, we have moved students around based on need. Good job
with leveling students in the intermediate, switches are more
easily made. Students work at their pace, setting goals, and are
not tied to grade specific levels. When it's used properly,
students are more aware of what they should be learning and their
progress. We meet kids where they are and we instruct based on
personal learning needs. Data Data cycles have been helpful to
focus instruction, and pinpoint what action should be taken to
continue their growth. More people are using the data information
to drive instruction in the areas of literacy especially. Seeing a
lot of student growth in reading data and writing. Very happy with
results from mid-year testing. Having teachers really take the time
to look at the data and plan groups according to that data, is very
helpful for the students' learning. Using data to drive instruction
helps students see where they are and where they need to be. It is
exciting to see the data matches what you know the students can do.
Kindergarten DIBELS data went from about 44% proficient at the BOY
to about 70% proficient at MOY! Kindergarten students are making
wonderful growth this year despite all of the behavior challenges
we are facing. Better planning and implementation when you know
where the students are and where they need to be. Kindergarten has
made huge growth on DIBELS and almost all grades have made great
gains from the beginning of the year to the middle of the year. We
are using data to form intervention groups (W-APT/ACCESS, DIBELS,
Scantron, etc.) progress-monitoring data has become a core part of
our reading instruction and provides constant feedback on what's
working and what other interventions we might try. I think the
Amplify system on the i-Pads has really made our jobs in this area
so much easier. The writing cycles do require a lot of upfront
work, but they point out things I haven't previously realized about
students' individual accomplishments and needs. PMI quizzes and
unit tests are good indicators of progress, have a number of data
sources, which we use to drive our instruction. Using data in
vertical teams to know where the student came from and what is to
be expected for the next year
Slide 26
Tennyson Knolls Students It's rarely the students that make
teaching difficult! Students in my class are engaged, ready to
learn, and working hard to push themselves further in math and
reading. Some of the students are trying to work harder after being
shown how they are progressing through DIBELS and Scantron. Some of
the highest needs students in the school are making great growth
since the beginning of the year in the areas of following school
rules. Students are setting goals and know what they are working
on. Great community building within the various classes as well as
in the small literacy groups. Students understand more that we're
all here to help each other. Students are taking more ownership in
learning, students ask me where they are as far as levels and
learning targets. They come to school no matter what is happening
in some of their lives. This would not have been possible with out
the help of so many members of our staff being willing to jump in
an support students. Thank you!! Kindergarten made most progress.
Yay, Kinder. First/Second Grade - for the most part they were eager
to listen and learn throughout the semester of our Burst Groups.
GOOOO Teams!! Our participation is through our communication with
each other and students as individuals that we made such amazing,
significant growth this last semester. We are hoping next semester
will improve even better. Our students were "FANTASTIC" at helping
one another and engaging with the group They are just the best part
of this job no matter what system you are using. They truly care
about each other. Watching the older kids with the younger kids is
adorable. Students enjoy the intervention block - right now they
are asking when we will have groups again and I get a "Yessssss!"
in response when I tell them testing should be done soon. Students
seem enthusiastic about their learning and want to work hard. The
majority of our students want to be here and want to be successful.
Students at TKE feel safe, smile, laugh, and have fun all while
learning. Students know that they can trust the TKE staff and that
if they are in need we will be there for them! As an adult looking
on, I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the many needs I see in our
community, both academic and personal, but I admire how our
students just keep on keeping on. Many of them have many stressors
in their lives, but they seem to cope so well. Students get small
group instruction based on needs, students can make learning goals
that are personal.
Slide 27
Tennyson Knolls Parent Involvement TKE parents want their
students to do well. Parent attendance at first set of conferences
was good. I've gotten more responses from parents. I got way more
materials from the students this year than I have the last couple
years, and I think that's because parents are paying attention.
I've also had more parents contacting me about their students in
regards to behavior, homework, etc. There is high interest in
chaperoning field trips. Many parents appreciate hearing about
progress and knowing where their child needs help. We have some
wonderful volunteers that care very much about each student. Thanks
to Remind and Class Dojo parents are checking in about behavior
online! Gives them a better snapshot of where the children are at
and what they need to do to move to the next level. Parents are
asking great questions about how to help their students. Parents
seem to like student-led conferences better than APTT. Parents seem
happy with the school. From my experience at the Coffee with the
Principal that parents ask great questions and really want to be
involved in their child's education. When we have activities that
parents can be involved in, we generally have a good turnout --
Conferences, Literacy Night, Coffee w/ the Principal. Parents are
educated on the CBS system, and they have tools to see how there
child is progressing and what will be expected of them next. Staff
The staff wants to do what's best for students. I believe we have
their best interest in mind. SPED team working very well together
to meet the needs of students including re-evaluating many children
who came from other schools with IEP's. I see more positive
interactions with staff members, they are friendly to each other.
Most are willing to share ideas also. Bouncing ideas off each
other, having some flexibility to move students from one level to
the next Teacher has worked tirelessly with our kindergarten class
troubleshooting problematic behaviors with us and we are seeing
some positive change!! We are forming a lot of positive
relationships that are really benefiting the students. The entire
intervention team is pitching in to help with testing. So we can
get done faster and actually teach soon... :-) This team is
fantastic to work with and I enjoy collaborating with them daily.
The intervention team is really good about working together to make
decisions about instruction and groupings based on what is best for
the students. TKE staff is always happy to help each other out. We
encourage, support, listen, and cheer each other on.I cannot say
enough about the interventionists and their willingness to offer
suggestions and even to take on kids in their groups who don't
technically belong there; i.e.
Slide 28
Tennyson Knolls Activities We work hard to connect activities
to real-life situations for kids, to make sure they are engaging,
and to make them high-interest for students. I'm looking forward to
the literacy night. I thought getting rid of the old conferences
and trying student led conferences was AWESOME. Way better
attendance and parent friendly. Making students more independent
with learning: stations, chrome books, projects..etc We try to get
a wide variety of activities for the students to do and be a part
of. Just finished a science unit about forces and
motion--kindergarten comes alive with hands on activities. They
loved getting to build ramps and test various objects to see if
they could make them go faster or slower. Their excitement was
contagious as they problem solved and talked together about the
experiment. We are looking at ways to benefit the whole child, and
it's helping them round out their experience here! After school
programming has been great this year. The students really love the
Zumba and Karat, can't wait for Girls on the Run. Wolf Bucks and
the Wolf Buck Store are effective. The new "Bucket Program" and
Behavior Focus programs are great! TKE offers several opportunities
for the families, students, and staff to become involved. Karate,
movie night, Literacy/health night, Zumba, Parent/Teacher
Conferences, Book Fairs, Student Council, food/clothing drive,
Valentine's Day sucker sale, Girls on the Run, Friday food
backpacks(Growing Home), parenting classes, Coffee with the
Principle, and much more. Activities are learner centered and
differentiated. Other positives: I know that there are many other
teachers I can go to for support, and to brain storm ideas on how
to maximize student learning. I know I'm not in this alone!
Changing lunch room helped make things smoother for children and
staff in lunch room. Attendance. I think that anything that
challenges us outside of our comfort zone and that truly enhances
teaching is positive and improves us as educators. Our resources
are mostly great: Fully stocked reading resource room, new Wonders
program, a plethora of Chromebooks, day-to-day supplies, etc.
Slide 29
Sherrelwood CBS Students are owners of their own learning and
track their own data through individual data notebooks. The school
has Quarterly Awards Assemblies for Level Changes (parents love to
come and see their children advance). We also include other awards
such as competitions, attendance, behavior awards) Our Wonders
Literacy Program goes hand in hand with CBS and provides teachers
with leveled literature and scafolded instruction for the different
leveled students in our classrooms. Data Increase in achievement
scores across the school. Teachers take the time to participate in
data digs and dig down to the individual student level and use data
to adjust their instruction with that child. The RTI and data
analysis process at our school is outstanding. Due to this we are
able to create individual learning plans for most all our students
with fine-tuned instruction prescribed. There is great staff
collaboration around the use of the school data board and analyzing
data to provide Tier 1, 2 and 3 instruction. Interventionists and
classroom teachers collaborate closely to provide the just right
instruction. Students try their very best with all the many
assessments we ask them to take. They always take it seriously and
try to show us all they know. Students The Student Leadership team
is more involved in school based decision making this year. They
are taking on several community projects this year also. Students
stay after school for any club you can provide them. Recently they
participated in an Hour of Code with our Technology teacher rep.
Several students participate in a Peer Mentor Program pairing up
primary and intermediate students who may have special behavioral
needs. This promotes positive relationship building for both
parties. Parent Involvement Good community involvement for family
events: Data Night, Fitness Night, Activity & Salsa Competition
event, Literacy & Math Nights, etc. Our staff and parents get
involved in the school fundraisers and provide classrooms with many
great opportunities (In- school Field Trips, Out-of school Field
Trips, Yearbooks, 5 th grade Celebrations, Rewards, etc.) Parents
are provided classes at Sherrelwood and love to come and be
together to learn (Weekly English Classes, Computer classes,
Nutrition & Cooking classes) Principal provides an informal
time for parents to come in and have Coffee with the Principal so
she can hear whats on their mind. This often leads to projects and
improvement in the school.
Slide 30
Sherrelwood Staff The Wellness Committee is providing both
physical and mental health PD at our weekly staff meetings.
Teachers are taking these activities and learning into the
classroom and implementing it with kids. Staff write grants to
receive additional funding for the school. This allows us to give
so much more to our students: In- School Field trips-Bee keeper,
Social Studies History Tubs, Lego Units, Birds of Prey, Wonders
Curriculum and many more all right here at our school. They also
received school-wide grants for attending sessions at the zoo.
Activities Students love being involved in extracurricular
activities like Geo Bee, Spelling Bee and Science Fair Our PE
teacher provides before school Sports Clubs for the students. They
come early to get in on those activities. She also hosts a playoff
game between staff and students at the end of each sports session.
Our music teacher also provides after school band tutoring and many
students take her up on it. We have a packed house for each of our
Music & Movement Performances at every level. They work hard to
include fitness and movement in all the music programs. She is also
culturally sensitive to our community and includes many things of
diversity. Other Our PBIS Committee challenges our students to have
excellent behavior. Through Excellence Referrals (certificate, call
home, pizza lunch & certificate), Tiger Tales for outstanding
evidence, Tiger Paws for behavior in the classroom and a school
goal to meet, we see decreased behavior problems every day. This
allows for more time learning. The PTA provides annual Yearbooks to
the staff which are a culmination of all the wonderful activities,
events and classroom lessons going on throughout the year. As well
as their bright shiny faces.

Scott Carpenter CBS We have seen abundant level advancement.
Since the beginning of the school year over 200 kids have leveled
up in math and literacy. Data In our co-taught literacy and math
classrooms Scantron gains averaged 50 points higher than our
regular classrooms both on the reading and the math test. Our 6th
grade students and our kids who are more than 1 year below grade
level in reading have shown significant advancement on their Lexile
levels. Their lexiles have increased by an average of 44 points.
These kids are on track to exceed typical growth as measured by
lexile. Students Students affective needs are just as important as
their academic needs. SCMS initiated a second semester kickoff
entitled #iriseabove #astros. Students investigated ways to rise
above the circumstances that held them back previously in order to
have an Astro-nomical semester. Based on survey data SCMS students
are better positioned to meet with success given that they know
what it's like to be an Astro and have been trained on being a
better friend and student. Parent Involvement SCMS' PTO is taking
an increased role in choosing initiatives and programs to help move
the school forward. Staff Greater consistency in the classroom has
been achieved through lesson plan submission, walk through
documentation, English Language Professional Development, PLCs and
Data Cycles. Activities After school tutoring is underway at
Scott.

Ranum Near approval of the NGSI grant!! CBS At semester
celebrated several level changes in literacy and math. Students
were pulled from the class and sat with the principal to make the
new schedule changes and then parents were called. More effective
and consistent use of Educate than any other year at Ranum.
Schedule allows for students to move immediately! Data Finally
moved out of priority improvement into improvement status! Winter
data for 8th grade this year continues to be our strength. Students
Significant improvements with culture and behavior. We tightened up
on dress code and students have responded well. WEB and NJHS
continue to demonstrate leadership and support for their peers!
Students continue to develop understandings of CBS and are
beginning to realize that hard work does pay off with level
changes. Parent Involvement Increased communication through our
Thursday folders and consistent Educate reports and an aligned
scoring system. Staff Curriculum planning with the Center for
Transforming Learning and Teaching. Mary Beth Romke is pushing
teachers beyond their skills and knowledge and they are all
responding very well. Good administrative support for teachers
Appreciative of the prepared ICAP lessons for Advisory Regular use
of Google accounts and Google docs! Love love love the chromebooks
- we still need more! Having guest teacher coverage is greatly
improved over last year!

Hidden Lake High School CBS Early Graduates - using CBS, which
affords students the opportunity to earn credits at a more
expeditious rate, HLHS is proud to note we've had 19 graduates as
of January 2015 for the school year 2014-15. Students who had not
previously experienced success were elated to find they had reached
all credits towards graduation. Students Student Council Retreat -
Loretta Vigil, Campus Monitor, and Kerry Golden, Counselor, took 20
Student Council members to a retreat on January 16. The purpose of
the retreat was to build strong leadership skills amongst the group
and to break down barriers within the group so that they may work
together as a cohesive unit. Students will bring what they learned
to the student body as models for leadership, personal change and
growth. Peer Mediators - A group of students have been organized
and trained by Kelly Mitchell, educator, and Kerry Golden,
counselor, to be peer mediators for students in conflict. Students
experiencing difficulty with each other can sign up with a mediator
to 'talk out' the situation. Peer mediators keep students focused
on the problem and to listen respectfully, ensures all parties have
the opportunity to explain thoughts and feelings, listens
non-judgmentally and helps to explore solutions. Activities Haunted
High School - Student Council members created "Haunted High", a
walk-through haunted house in the former Horticulture area, open to
the community. HLHS students extended invitations to AC50
elementary schools. Metz, Skyline Vista and STEM Academy were some
of the schools that ushered apprehensive but giggling students
thorough the house of horrors. Hidden Lake High School students
were delighted to interact with their younger counterparts. Selma
field trip - 40 students attended a viewing of the film Selma after
discussing civil rights issues. Especially pertinent amongst high
school students given some of the Metro Denver high school
walkouts, the film allowed for engaging debate and a deeper
understanding of the Civil Rights movement amongst HLHS students.
Facebook montage - HLHS alumuni have been actively engaging with
the school to create a Facebook photo montage detailing the
positive effects that the school and staff had on them. The montage,
which will be fully implemented in March of 2015, is a series of
black and white photos of HLHS graduates holding a whiteboard on
which is written their experiences at the school and how the grads
implement skills learned while at HLHS.

Westminster High School Recently received a 220,000 Next
generation grant that will support our efforts with PBL and PD to
increase classroom engagement and increase student learning. CBS To
date we have over 20 early graduates that will be graduating with
the class of 2015 due to the ability to "move faster" in our
system. Data Refined the Walkthrough Process to incorporate
instructional model, focus on DOK and student engagement, etc. via
Google for more immediate feedback/data Students We have seen a
2.56% jump in our attendance rate in the first 2 weeks back from
Winter break due to the renewal of the closed campus policy. Our IB
program gained significant traction with an increase in IB
diplomas, college credit and academic excellence last year. We were
awarded "AP Honor Roll Status Newly formed Wolf Pack Tutoring
students helping students Two finalists for the Boettcher
Scholarship Students taking PLTW classes are now eligible for
college credit and we are working with parents to help fund this.
Parent Involvement Our second year of the Parent Coalition is
highly successful with 30-40 parents regularly attending. The
sessions are designed to teach parents about the life of a high
school student at Westminster HS and what they can do to support
their students. Staff The staff has successfully completed common
assessments for all core subjects and some electives due to the
time with our PLC's. This has given us the ability to adjust
instruction and increase our student's test scores. All teachers
are participating in two after school tutoring sessions each week
with their students to support their academic progress. Regular PD
(twice a month) that has led to increased collaboration as well as
two staff-led PD days that allows staff to lend their expertise to
their peers for immediate implementation in the classroom. One took
place in the fall and one is set for Feb 17th. Activities Both the
softball team and football team made it to the first round of the
playoffs. The boys soccer team made it to the second round of the
playoffs. Two softball players, Angel and Olvia, signed their
letters of intent to play college softball last week!
