Chuck Close
Chuck Close is an American portrait painter who became famous for his massive scale photorealist paintings
He is highly focused and meticulously creates his paintings to look exactly like a photograph. He often uses a grid on the photo and copies it cell by cell
He uses his own creative techniques (such as various shapes in the painting on the left) whilst creating highly accurate works and really capturing his personality
Chris Ofili
Chris Ofili is an English African Portrait painter. His travels to USA, Trinidad, Zimbabwe and Spain have influenced how he creates his
pieces of art His Portraits are lively, bold and colourful He has been inspired by the Bible, hip-hop, Zimbabwean Cave paintings and the artist
William Blake. He uses dots, bold blocks of colour and bring his personality and experiences into his
portraits to show his self identity
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn• Rembrandt is a Dutch painter• He captures light and dark (chiaroscuro) successfully in his
portraits• His qualities such as sincerity, empathy and kindness are
expressed very accurately and this is shown in one of his classical paintings with his high attention to detail
• The Bible was a huge inspiration as well as his life experiences.
• He melded the material and spiritual worlds in his paintings. Furthermore he included various objects that inspired him into his works of art
David Hockney
• David Hockney is a British artist who creates detailed portraits and is inspired by music when he creates his works of art to show his self identity.
• He uses acrylic and oil paints to create his realistic skin tones and captures his personality and character in his expressions
• He creates depth and realism from the use of shading and drawing in proportion

Mixing Skin Tones:Basic Light Pallet
+ +•Mix lots of white with a little yellow and a touch of red•Add a dot of blue to cool down the colour•To create shadows mix brown with red, yellow, white and a touch of black
Basic Dark Pallet
Warm tones = Yellow, Brown and Red.
Cool tones= Yellow, Brown and Blue
To create highlights mix yellow and white with a touch of brown and red
