Art, Architecture, and Design

The explosion of interest in art, architecture, and design has fueled the need for writers who can interpret aesthetic principles for the casual reader, yet write with authority for specialized audiences. From profiles on today’s innovative architects to in-depth analyses and criticism of design trends, my nationally published work incorporates a long experience with the design community.

Profiles There is an art to the interview and its faithful

translation to the page; a good profile should capture the person and his or her passion. In my many profiles, I have interviewed architects, writers, interior designers, poets, politicians, craftspeople, chefs, museum curators, graphic designers, landscape architects, artists -- and dozens of others.

Food and Travel

Exhaustive research and unfailing accuracy are givens in good travel writing. However, the best writing creates a unique sense of place that transcends the compendium of facts. In my work as a writer, researcher and editor of travel guidebooks, I infuse the printed word with energy, wit, and a knowledgeable voice; my guides are indispensable companions for hundreds of thousands of travelers. I bring the same skill to my numerous travel articles in national magazines and newspapers.

Books

Hailed as “Required Reading” in the New York Post and called “a real treasure” by the International Herald Tribune, my “In Mind” series of travel anthologies has enjoyed critical praise and a spot on Amazon’s bestseller list. Each of the five books in the series has been published by Vintage, a division of Random House. In addition, I co-edited The Brooklyn Reader, also for Random House.
