many of the most characterist ic urban spaces in los angeles could be concidered ‘stretches’ rather than ‘distr icts’. a tradit ion of mobil i ty has resulted in the city’s many iconic Str ips. land-marks through which to navigate, meet, consume, and move. the exist ing str ips in los angeles al l consist of a series of diverse zones. often there are undefined areas in between, but the Str ip t ies them together. analysing these areas created the foundation for a proposed development of a new Str ip along the los angeles river. the los angeles river Str ip is a boardwalk Str ip on the site of the former train tracks to the east side of the r iver. it is 10 meters wide and stretches nearly f ive ki lometers. it is a cool, shaded space for pedestr ians and bikers, segways and skaters, entertainers and chess players. in order to create an attractive public space, the Str ip was developed along certain guidel ines and principles. the area is city-owned and has zoning codes that require al l developments to be accessed by public transportation and natural ly cooled, and that they produce energy. because of its scale, the content and atmosphere of the Str ip wil l stand out from the rest of the city. al l Str ip-front propert ies must have an active relationship to the Str ip. property owners wil l have obl igations to and benefits from the Str ip and its complementary elements.

Less Home. USA.

Under de två veckorna sov jag på en rad olika platser, men mestadels i en taklös halvt ned-brunnen gammal industribyggnad i i närheten

försörja mig och läste alla gratistidningar jag hittade grundligt varje dag.

Jag kunde inte göra anspråk på att efter fjorton dagar under bar himmel bland bråten i hamnen sätta mig in i hur det är att var uteliggare på riktigt, men under vandrandet i parkerna efter tomburkar, den molande hungern och ensamheten, kylan på nätterna, blev det ändå en erfarenhet som ökade min förståelse för skillnaderna i samhället. Framför

fungerar som jag bär med mig.

Projektets slutprodukt blev en del av en utställning som skolan höll på Karlskrona Konsthall. Jag ställde ut den dagbok jag skrivit under veckorna samt den sovsäck jag använt och några bilder som Malmö-fotografen Wilhelm Ljungberg tagit av projektet.

Det här var inget arbete i vanlig mening, snarare raka motsatsen. Under våren 2007 reste jag med tre

annat LA, New Orleans och Nashville.

Det var en lärorik och spännande resa. Inte minst ur

oändligt sprawl i Phoenix, ett New Orleans som fort-

Angeles med motorvägar, stränder och sprawl.

Under våren 2006 tillbringade jag två veckor som hemlös i Malmö. Det var en del av en kurs som handlade om gestaltning av offentiga rum. Syftet var att undersöka hur ens syn på stadens offentliga miljöer förändras när man vistas i dem konstant.
