This space seems to have been there for an unrecalled amount of time; yet it refreshes the senses and reminds the villager of a presence.

It becomes a gathering ground- a place of renewed interests and refreshed sense of inspiration, hope and faith.

In order to create his presence it is crucial to strategically situate the curch in the correct spot.A spot in which this building will be visible from all corners of the village- a constant reminder of that love.

A spot that is poetic and spiritually uplifting.A spot that has the potential to enable social interaction; the potential to promote a new gathering area for all kinds of activities.A spot that respects the current buildings and is accommodating to future ones.A spot that touches an individual.A spot that transforms a town.

A Chapel on a Hill.

New Annex and Secondary Concert Hall: 24,000 sq. ft. Urban Square Design Masterplan of surrounding area, including new 10,000 sq. ft. government center building.

“...most enormous tenderness and compassion...”

These are words spoken by a World War II veteran whowas being carried by a dozen or more of his fellow soldiers off the battleground and into safety after seriously being wounded in battle.

The sacri!ce that many military individuals and families make to defend this country isinvaluable, their sacri!ce is love.

This project seeks to provide a setting in which that love is reciprocal - a setting that responds to the speci!cs of context. By context we are not only talking about the surrounding buildings, but we refer to the socio-cultural, religious and age related issues.

In regard we seek to create a space that inspires, soothes and paci!es an individual at the horizon of his/her life. A space that gently and lovingly embraces the individual. A space that remotely reminds the user of a memorable experience or place without really recalling its precise location or moment; but seming all the too familiar.

Our proposal examines the unique spriritual quialities of

protestant, catholic and multi-faith religion that is

homogenized by context.

By creating three unique worship spaces under one

structure we propose to celebrate each of their

distinctiveness, the relationships and different intensities

of their shared opacities.

Each space celebrates the specificity of the religion while

celebrating and honoring the life of service and

dedication of military women and men.

We propose to locate the new church building next to

the existing healthcare facility. This allows the possibility

of being directly linked to an existing building making it

possible to exclusively concentrate the spiritual activities

within one structure.

By tucking the building as far as possible northeast of the

competition site a new public plaza space has been

created; also another more intimate plaza has been

created off the sanctuary. This plaza allows for outdoor

events such as weddings, concerts and other

celebrations.

Reclaimed wood posts mark the entrance at the narthex,

the interior wood shell acts as a point of reference of

solidity- an area of neutrality.

The Sanctuary, inspired by the structure of airplane

fuselages, glows with a peaceful intensity- light here

invades the user directly. The sacristy is scaled to relate to

the single house detached homes in the community and

protestant worship.

The Blessed Sacrament is illuminated by the opacity of

the walls and hundreds of copper tubes that act as

intermediaries as shimmering sun rays enter the space

from above. This dramatic space also serves as a

lighthouse of presence in the community.

The Multi-faith room has operable walls on both sides

making it possible to extend the sanctuary into the

narthex. It also houses a direct link to a reflecting

pool-setting the right characteristics for meditation.

The existing health center is re-used for housing the

sacristies and all the administrative offices. A short

memorable hallway facing the reflecting pool connects

with the narthex and church; effectively creating an

“indoor street” within existing, re-used and new spaces.

We propose a space that brings the opportunity to the visitor to be an active participant and to identify with the memorial; to be involved in order to negotiate responsiveness in a memorial/museum merged into one typoloy as an agent of change.

A contested space in which the relationship between the extermination of Jews in Kyiv during World War II and the emerging identity of Jews is confronted through dialogue.Through this dialogue the museum/memorial will materialize memory of that horrori!c event. Now, being always present and shifting as generations live and die valicate this discourse-space always vital and essential to humanity.

Jeremiah is not mourning over the past but out of hope for the future. Every tear shed contributes to the reconstruction of the next Temple. -Rav Simcha Zissel of Kelm.

Memory is dynamic and its movement is largely ungraspable, it is situated between a speci!city of the present and complexity of the past.

The only constant of the horrori!c events of Babi Yar is the intent to “cover up” and the resultant constant shifts in the cultural, social and racial topographical landscape.

The square will be replaced by a "exible open space that will host a wide variety of events. University students will "ood the square along with artists being housed in the nearby proposed cultural building. Bankers and business men will enjoy this space during their outings from their nearby o$ces. Residents will have a space to converge and enjoy their time o#.

In order to celebrate the furor of the Eurocup 2012 a bright temporary “urban surface” is proposed on our site. This multi-colored surface will welcome visitors to Adriyivsky Descent and guide them down to Kontraktova Square.

After Eurocup 2012, the temporary surface will leave an “urban tattoo” implanted into the paving of the street. The bright coloring of "owers and grasses will remind city dwellers of the Eurocup 2012 and will be relived during the spring and summer months.

Existing trees will remain. This will be a city square garden that will respond to each speci!c season; di#erently every year. For example if a patchy grass area is needed somwhere else then the infrastructure makes it viable for plant growth to occur in that certain area. People and situations year after year will de!ne how they wish to utilize the square.

Our proposal focuses on delineating strategies rather than imposing formal gestures. We searched for seemingly adverse speci!c situations that could be highlighted and utilized to pin-point the location of "exible surfaces.

We chose Kontraktova and Adriyivsky Descent. This Plot #3 is the only plot that e#ectively disperses visitors from Olympic Stadium to the widest amount of city landmarks. In order to reach Kontraktova visitors transverse from the Olympic Stadium to the Fan Zone next to Independence Square, St. Sophia and St. Michael, St. Andrew down Andriyivsky Descent and into Kontraktova Square and a direct natural "ow to the nearby riverside.

Andriyivsky Descent present situation calls for the renewal and restoration of its buildings. Furthermore the issue of street vendors must be addressed. Street vendors will have designated areas in which to operate. The street will be closed completely to automobile tra$c.

Kontraktova Square is now completely over run by automobiles, trams and buses. We propose to convert the whole square into a pedestrian zone.

Since the topographical features are of great relevance in the development and evolution of local urban life, this concept will be rendered through embankments, alluding to the canons of the Tijuana River basin.

These embankments or slopes will allow the relocation of the complex that houses the public library and the State’s Institute of Culture, positioning them on the southern border, which currently contains no buildings, slopes will work as the shelter of these areas and commerce, services and other auxiliary functions of the square.

A national symbol was used so that in a general perspective of the plaza it could be visualized with treatments in the pavement at an observer level, it could only be perceived with a low lights game which will capture this symbol inside the plaza, thus achieving a subtle detail but with a strong symbolic argument.

To convert this 40,000 m2 into an interesting and welcoming area, one will !nd the replica of the original urban trace of Tijuana captured through a treatment in the pavement, that in addition to inviting the user to walk through it, it will function as an union element between all components.

Emphasizing the hues of the mexican "ag in the project, the red and white will be re"ected through the facades/skin that will be adapted to the City Hall and the Government of the State buildings; and the green will be re"ected through a large extension of gardens distributed throughout the project.

We propose a center that is open not only to the end-user/consumer but is accessible to all as a public park. We also propose adding residential units to the complex. The seeemingly !oating main structures of the restaurant/concert hall and convention space are conceived directly from the city’s DNA-a city in continuous transaction and constant shifts: A city with-out de"nition.

This project also seeks to create a pause where the city is turned inside-out and private events are displayed and celebrated with the rest of the city and where public events become a peep show for spectators within the building to enjoy. You see me. I see you. I see myself.

The client for this project approached us with the idea of creating a multi-purpose space, a restaurant/concert hall and retail shops.

Since the location of the project is a vacant lot situated in the middle of the edge of the "nancial center, a major shopping center, the main museum and cultural hub and divides these three areas from the old derelict downtown area we immediately turned our interest into treating this project as an urban problem. As an opportunity to stitch together the urban fabric and create enjoyable pedestrian areas within the city that are currently non-exixtent.

We attempted to reach into the memory of the place and re-established the topography that no longer existed- ironically this too became a “real” farce.

We also explored the idea of creating a Hollywood set with live plants, while sustainably, e!cient are not native to the land.

A relaxing surreal atmosphere and escape from the monotonous neighborhood was successfully achieved.

The garden is set in a typical upper-middle class Southern California suburb from the early 2000’s. Our client wanted to escape the monotony of his cookie cutter neighborhood. While studying the needs and habits of our client we discovered several pieces of art that he collected- all of them expressed the duality of contrasts between soft and coarse.

Our response to the conditions and needs of our client delineated a project in which the topographical reality had been constructed by bulldozers.

We proposed three-axle construction, separating private, public and semi-public areas connected by squares, achieving a visual central point for all users.

Each axis of construction works with the same form divided with a central element of services, locating at the lower level commercial area, and on the upper !oor housing, studios of o"ces. To separate the axis, two di#erent plazas were created, one public and one semi-public.

The objective of these plazas is to make tourists and locals understand that Rosarito has areas full of harmony, peace and tranquility. Drinking alcohol and going to the beach are not the only means of entertainment available in Rosarito.

The streets of Palmas, Eucalipto and Mar Adriatico, located behind Blvd. Benito Juarez, are well known as point of recreation, entertainment and pedestrian !ow in Rosarito, Baja Calofornia.

The main quality of the urban tissue is the diversity of nightclubs, hotels and gastronomy.

Rosarito is a city that lives and depends on tourism. The current shortage of tourism in the State, a#ects cities like this socially and economically.

To ensure that the area has life throughout the year, we included main activities for the urban tissue within the architectural program; by o#ering the existing user to be able to carry out these activities within the project.

It is to say that, within the complex, the user can live work, eat and have fun in a same place, preserving the use and pedestrian !ow in the area.
