I am a three year architecture graduate student at Clemson University. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from the University of South Carolina in 2008. Arbre Blanc at Mont-Tremblant is a whimsical couples get away nestled into the hillside overlooking the Tremblant ski resort village and Lake Tremblant, with beautiful views of the adjacent mountain as well. The name Arbor Blanc comes from area’s history in the white pine industry and the abun-dance of these trees located on and around the site. Before the area became a world renowned for it’s ski resort and tour-ism it was one of the largest lumber producing areas and the leader in the United States paper industry. I am interested in using the local white pines as the main building material to connect the building to its surrounding environment and also to its history. The overall concept of the building skin is the use the logs in unique and interesting ways, creating a sublime and illusionistic experience for the visitor depending on location. The experience will vary greatly depending on how far away one is from the exterior, what type of space one is in such as public or private, and how one can view out from within the building. The exterior face of the logs will be a curved, smooth surface contrasting from the natural, rough surface within the transition zone from outside to in-side, that transforms back into a more shaved and polished wood texture on the interior of the rooms. The logs will be-gin to form interior aspects such as furniture creating an illu-sion of continuity without any disruption. The main idea that I am focused on is the relationship and interaction between the logs and the visitor throughout the different spaces.

Arbre BlancArbre Blanc is located in Quebec, Canada in the Laurentian Mountains.
White pine is was the major industry of the area before Mont-Tremblant was made into ski resort it is today, and served as the material inspi-ration for the design.
The logs create a fluctuating exterior service that appear to become the interior wall panels of the rooms.
Private and public spaces are separated by location and indicated by material. The lower floors, glazing in front and a stone and glass combination in back, house the communal areas while the private rooms are located above and indicated by the wood surface.
The main entrance of the ho-tel is on the south facing side in direct response to the ex-isting resort village which is the major point of access.
