MORE THAN 2/3 OF THE EARTH’S SURFACE IS COVERED BY WATER.

• The majority of that—97.5%—is salt water, leaving only 2.5% as fresh water.• Nearly 70% of the fresh water is frozen in the icecaps of Antarctica and Greenland. That means less than 1% of the water supply on earth can be used as drinking water.• This 1% is the water found in lakes, rivers, reservoirs and those underground aquifers that can be tapped at an affordable cost. Only this amount is regularly renewed by precipitation and is therefore available on a sustainable basis.

1.1 BILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO SAFE DRINKING WATER. THAT’S ROUGHLY 20% OF THE WORLD’S POPULATION. MOST OF THE WORLD’S PEOPLE MUST WALK AT LEAST 3 HOURS TO FETCH WATER.

• 2.4 billion people worldwide lack access to adequate sanitation services• Nearly 5,000 children die every day from diseases associated with unsafe water and poor sanitation and hygiene.• Unsafe water and poor sanitation also cause an estimated 80 per cent of all diseases in the developing world.

MORE THAN 2/3 OF THE EARTH’S SURFACE IS COVERED BY WATER.

• Some countries use less than 10 litres per person per day. Gambia uses 4.5, Mali 8, Somalia 8.9, and Mozambique 9.3.• By contrast the average US citizen uses 125 gallons of water per day for drinking, cooking, cleaning and hygiene. One flush of a Western toilet uses as much water as the average person in the developing world uses for a whole day.• 340 billion gallons of water are used every day in the United States. This total includes water used in irrigation, in industry, and in fire fighting and street cleaning.

HOW MUCH WATER DOES IT TAKE...?

• Washing your hands can use up to 3 gallons.• Leaving the water running while you brush your teeth can waste up to 5 gallons.• The average toilet uses 5 to 7 gallons per flush.• Cutting one minute off your shower time can save about 700 gallons per month.• Automatic dishwashers use about 15 gallons per load.• The average bath takes about 36 gallons.• It takes 1,500 gallons of water to process 1 barrel of beer.• It takes 39,000 gallons of water to manufacture a new car.

HISTORY OF THE HACIENDALegend says fate led Feliciano Romo to notice the sun glinting on something metal in a field. What he found was a horseshoe encircling a sprouting agave plant. Romo took this discovery as a sign of good fortune and decided to name his tequila “Herradura,” which means “horseshoe” in Spanish.

LEGENDARY CRAFTSince 1870, Casa Herradura has followed the same handcrafted, old-world production process originally used at Hacienda San Jose del Refugio in Amatitan, Jalisco, Mexico–clay ovens, natural fermentation, natural aging–to craft the finest, most authentic tequilas in the world.

THE ORIGINS OF TEQUILAAs North America’s first distilled drink, myths about tequila’s origin abound. The most popular says the Aztecs discovered

the fermented sap of the agave plant after lightning struck an agave field. The plants burned and out of their hearts flowed an aromatic nectar. They believed it was a “gift from the gods”. This nectar was called “Mezcal.”

Over time mezcal was replaced by “tequila” which earned its name from the little village where its production originated. True tequila can only be made from “Blue Agave” grown in the “denomination of origin”.

Tequila is categorized by agave content and maturation. The two basic categories of tequilas are: “100% agave” tequilas (made with 100% blue agave) and “Mixto” tequilas (made with 51% Blue Agave). Maturation refers to the amount of time tequila is aged in barrels. For Reposado, which means “rested” or “matured” in Spanish, the tequila is aged in toasted white oak barrels to give them a naturally derived copper/golden color.

THE NO1 SELLING TEQUILA IN MExICO

el Jimador is a premium, authentic tequila from Casa Herradura, established in 1870, that captures the spirit of real tequila.

el Jimador is the name given to the experienced farmer who cultivates the blue agave that is the foundation of el Jimador tequila. His knowledge and passion are key to the natural production process of crafting tequila using 100% blue agave. The fruits of his labor give this estate-bottled tequila it’s exceptionally smooth and balanced taste.

Reposado, which means “rested” in Spanish, refers to the two months of aging which gives el Jimador Reposado tequila its naturally deep color and distinct aroma that impresses with sweet notes of cooked agave and delicate hints of vanilla and spice.
