PLACE LALLA YDOUNA, A NEIGHBORHOOD IN THE MEDINA OF FEZ, MOROCCO.
Arch. Ruben Verdi, Arch. Valentina Gambelli, Arch. Martina Benetti, Arch. Tommaso Fornasiero, Filippo Scarso, Alberto Cumerlato, Andrea Gatto, Simone Peruzzo
The project is a new gate and a circular footpath close to the river of Fez. The project is a sequence of spaces on different levels. The project site is one of the gates to the historical city and you must leave your vehicle and start walking. Thanks to this you can regain perception of the human time.
Car access to Medina is forbidden due to its maze of small streets. To walk around you will need a local guide or you’ll get lost. Its shape is its strength. Different flows of people, objects, voices and smells cross the area. Under the filtered light, stretches of sky are visible and you can find peaceful places to contemplate water tanks melting in the blue above. This project ames to recreate the mystical atmposphere of a place of exchange between travellers and those who live and work there. We tried to preserve the fellings generated by the orginal spaces.

Brickbottom . Sommerville, Massachussets, USA. We focused on the urbanistic theories and ideas, rather than getting distracted by the architectural design. The area is carachterized by industrail buildings, mostly no longer in use and by the spare number of residences and commercial units. Our goal was the reconstruction of the urban fabric, creating useful places for the citizens. We started from the concept of space for Otto Wagner “opportunity for the society to design itself“ and after studying Berlage’s work we decided to use the courts blocks proposing four different types.

PALACE BARBARIGO NANI MOCENIGO - Potential application of laserscanning to improve the knowledge of civil building in Venice. Prof. Arch. Francesco Guerra, Prof. Arch. Francesco Doglioni

The following drawings are a small part of a study, done for the graduation exam, which had as the goal to identify and analyze the mechanical phenomena that affect the building, describing and measuring the deformation, in the most accurate way. The data were obtained using a laserscanner, a total station and high resolution camera for the othographic pictures. The building was subjected to a thorough historical, stratigraphic analysis and geometric observation. Thanks to this we discovered it were built around 1300 and many transormation and changhes of part of the structures have happened. We arrived to identify the possible phases of transformation. The investigations, mainly geometrics, combined with careful reading and analysis of the differences visible in the drawings allowd us to reach a deeper level of knowledge of all phenomena of instability encountered. Based on the data and the observations collected we simulated reconstruction of the building in different phases, managing to reproduce the condition of the building as close as possible to the original appearance.

The project was developed in a closed and abandoned space, with strong historical connotations and precence of many buildings with different characteristics that led to discovery and understanding of the ancient construction. This huge space is very close to the Field of Miracles, and is part of a wider project hypothesis still in progress. We proposed an intervention that was not only aimed to the preservation or enhancement of one place but also to the creation of a new space which would link the project site with the rest of the city.

The project area is close to the previous one. The project was based on a thorough research of historical records from 1500 to these days. It’s allowd us to descover and redraw the appearance of the aera in different periods. Looking at the historical phases, the changes of places and factories, according to the functions and the concept of non respecting the existing architecture we have identified several issues and problems related to daily life. We have tried to solve them with our project, poursuing the goal of bringing the area and the architecture to a condition of new life, and making it as an active element in the city and not just ruins. To conclude we wrote a book of 117 pages of analyzes, surveys, plans and documents collection.

PIANO DI RECUPERO AREA EX LANE ROSSI A DUEVILLE (VI): progetto per il sub comparto 9
This project is set in context of strong historical connotation. This part of the yarns and fabrics warehouse is already under renovation. Thanks to a functional study of the new buildings we created a set of multi-purpose buildings in harmony with the skyline and that will be linked to the rest of the area. I was responsible for the realization of the dismountable maquette.
