1RM Gym Logo & Promotional Material

I worked with a client to produce a logo and other promotional material for a strength and conditioning gym opening in Welwyn Garden City. The logo is widely being used in and around the gym.

The client was pleased with my work so later asked me to continue to work with them to create a graffiti style logo for their resident tattooist and continue to make flyer’s and leaflets to promote their growing facilities.

These images show the logo in use both internally and also externally to promote the gym. As well as this a gym clothing and accessory range has been created using the logo which is hugely popular with their clientele.

Guard Safe - Farm Safety Project

What: The Guard Safe is a farm safety device that will help to prevent injuries caused by an incorrectly guarded power take-off shaft.

Why: During research I found that 30% of all machinery fatalities are caused by power take-off. Many of these being caused by incorrectly guarded power take-offs.

How: An incorrectly fitted or badly maintained guard can start to spin at 540 rpm. The super bright COB LED on the guard safe is activated by the centrifugal force and will illuminate to alert the operators that the guard is faulty.

Who: The Guard Safe aims to have a hugely positive impact on the farming community, whether that be the land owners, employees or the families of those at risk working with machinery that can cause life changing injuries. The Guard Safe will reduce the risks of such accidents happening.

Model Making ProcessTo prove the concept I created a lighting test rig and attached it to a lathe to simulate a dangerous power take-off shaft. From the test I was able to see an effective visual change so I developed the idea further.

Proving The Concept

These images show various stages of the model making process. To create the model I shaped some Chemiwood foam. Once happy with the shape of the model I used spray paints to create the appearance of the plastic and rubber materials that would be used for the actual product, resulting in a realistic appearance model.

Water Wake Alarm Clock

What: The Water Wake alarm clock was designed as part of a project to improve a part of someones day, the particular character for this project found it difficult to get out of bed in the morning, always feeling tired and sluggish until lunchtime.

Why: Research shows drinking a glass of cold water first thing in the morning will rehydrate the body making you feel more alert and energised.

How: The Water Wake alarm clock will only turn off when all the water inside has been drunk. Forcing the user to drink the water which will make them feel refreshed and energised for the day ahead, thus improving their day.

Who: The Water Wake alarm clock was designed for many target market groups, although the main target would be those who want to improve their morning and kick start their day the healthy way.

Water Wake Alarm Clock - In Transit Exhibition

I was chosen as one of 6 students from the University of Hertfordshires product and industrial design course to receive a scholarship to travel to and display my work as part of the In Transit exhibition in Japan during my final year of studies.

During my time in Japan as well as experiencing the culture I was able to attend workshops to learn the traditional crafts of copper plate printing and pottery.

Tubby’s Treats

For this project I had to design and make a limited production run of 20 items. I designed unique sweetie jars, each jar had sweets encapsulated in resin in the lid matching the sweets it contained. Each of the jars had a branded label showing the Tubby’s Treats logo which was in keeping with the marketing posters.

The 20 sweetie jars sold in just 26 hours and generated £32.67 in profit.

HCL Live Project

Aesthetic Contributors

FunThe device is simple and easy to use, this allows a user of any age to pick up the device and set off without having to spend lots of time reading complicated instructions.

MasculineThe chunky buttons and rubber screen surrounds add an element of masculinity to the device. The sharp angles on the rubber gaiter covering the moving parts also add to the masculinity.

UniversalThe device is adjustable to suit both the left or right hand. it is also a size that can be gripped by both young or old, small or large hands making the device suitable for a variety of users.

PracticalUsing colours that we associate with brands such as JCB and DeWalt shows a device that is built to withstand a lot of use. Using yellow also aids visibility as the device might otherwise be misplaces outside.

The project was based on the appearances of a device. For this project I chose to create a device for Geocaching, helping users to locate the caches and provide information about particular caches. Using an Osgood scale the characteristics of our device were chosen, we then had to choose how to portray the given characteristics in our device.

Recycled Chair Project

This was a 3 day teamwork challenge to take parts from old chairs that can no longer be used and by recycling the parts create a new chair.

As a team we created this unique steampunk style wheelchair but cutting and re welding a variety of parts from the original chair.

Other Work

I worked on a project to create a fun and interactive 3D printed business card. The idea was that the user would roll the tractor through some ink, and create muddy tyre track that would reveal my contact information.

I was approached by a personal trainer to create a logo he could use to promote his services. He asked me to create a logo that was clean and clinical and would be instantly recognisable as a heath and fitness brand.

I was asked to modernise the Hertfordshire Festival of Words logo. This is being used for the current Festival Of Words on all printed documents and the website.
