After studying the town and gown relationship in Clemson, South Carolina, I wanted to make the gesture of having a natural aspect divide the atrium in this living learning community, just as Clemson’s campus is divided by the natural spine.
Working through iterations of design, I came to a final design with hanging learning spaces in the atrium. This portrays the vertical learning aspect of clemson and how everyone can learn from each other. Below are two transverse sections to show the learning space in the middle and the living units toward the exterior on floors two through four.

In this project we were instructed to design a library on Peachtree Street in Atlanta, Georgia. This design developed from diagrams and the photo essay above, and two of many models you see below. I chose to chase this organic design to create a relaxing feel inside the library to combat the high circulation and noise level coming from Peachtree.
Above you can see the final model showing the materials of concrete and glass, along with a steel framing structure to create the library. The spatial rendering to the right gives a feel ofthe main stack area in the center of the library, and the East and West elevations below show how the structure fits into the site.
