UPAhotel design by Yichen Sun.

Interior Design : Yichen SunThis is the final project in my Interior Design course with the undergraduate level. I am asked toconvert an existing building into a small-scale boutique hotel. Through all my exploratoryresearches at the beginning of that semester, I decided to stay with a natural way to design theoutside and inside.

The display facade can show still images as well as video presentations. The left top corner imageshows that the inside construction of the electro chromic glass. The sunshine still can go throughthe window, also the outside landscape is clear to see. It is really a good combination with theLED effect. Other images represents how this smart materials be able to reversibly change theircolor in response to light.

My title of this final project isabout the modern boutique hotel,and blend in with the ECOelements. It is mainly acontemporary hotel with a uniquefeature, this feature is about thedesign of natural expression.

Location of the building

The designer made the sketch model to see how the original building lookslike inside, and also the below images indicate that the location of the buildingin the capital of China.

The location has the busy traffic streets, but that “oasis” area near the roads could be aextraordinary good location to design as a hotel planning. The very big car-parking space at thefront of the proposed pitch, surrounded by green atmosphere which can offer the quietenvironment during day and night. Moreover, structure face the straight south, which also a goodposition to lead to sunshine floods in. The right-hand side image shows that the hotel is going tobuild in a well-developed district in East of Beijing city.

LED light tubes, semi-transparent metallic glass, exterior dry-hanging bars, and antique bricks.Those four of parts are very important to build the exterior building.

Every project begins with an idea that has to be defined and refined. The first main theme is thathow to create a green atmosphere of inside space as my decision. (Image shows that how the greenimpact has been made inside home)

Wall paper concept. Wood, stones, bricks, and floor.The wall paper has the job to createthe soft and quite atmosphere.

Outside materials have the connection withnature, interior floor--plain color.

This is the bar section with therestaurant zone. It’s a very oftencombination for the modern hotels inthis day and age, which made barsand eating area together to save theinner space. The back exit is not farfrom the dining space, for theconvenience of smoking andbreathing.

Its very essential tochoose the right color ofthe dining tables andlighting effect.Otherwise, visually willtight.

The simple method to create the ECO atmosphere is that furnishing some potted plants in space. Itis actually a very brilliant idea, if designers collaborate the plant with modern furniture to be adecorative and functional structure.

The above left illustration is the final hand-made model. The fantastic wide spread use of newtechnology on the facade by using LED display, which gives the sense of modern atmosphere.Also, the ECO elements which are used inside of the building creating the concept ofenergy-saving. Finally, the designer made the building with the idea of eco-friendly concept, withthe mixture of new techs.

Internship in Urban Design

Development Work ( Responsibility: Researcher and Analyst)Development work is my first test to analyze an existing area, and get thevaluation of the re-construction work to achieve the best development plan.

Green Project (Responsibility: Researcher and Planner)The green project was carried on by Yichen Sun who has picked up the area ofMerseyside countryside in UK as the one of the practical work in his internship.

The reason why performing this green project is that the town has the ECO elements surroundingthe region, but has not been planned effectively and functionally. Through the massive researchand analysis, the designer has the obligation to achieve the best plan to re-construct the landscape.

In this area, some of the towns and counties has been compared widely to seek thebest way of ECO-development. Profound analysis and functional measurement are themain types to develop the existing landscape and living area.

5、 Project Features: With the requirement of planning the well-balanced

development, there are four operational basic principles on this project,

which is to protect strictly, developed coordinated, used widely, and

operability. Specifically, the new developed construction is going to achieve

the objective of improving the living quality and cultural pattern.

6、 In the case of defining the core theme of the project, the surrounded green

area is constructed to be the traditional region, which in order to make old

town developed consistently and coordinately. Also,this planning development

is going to adopt the dissimilar space arrangement, different the style of

architecture and measures of colorful control.

7、 Award : National town and country planning design - First Class in 2014.
