Elementary SchoolSummer 2012

Project Scope:Located in Watertown, Massachusetts, this elementary school is 150 students for grades kindergarten through second grade. This school emphasizes low student to teacher ratios with ten students per classroom, increasing the ability for more one on one student-teacher learning.

Concept:The inspiration for this space comes from learning throughout the school, emphasizing active learning in the corridors and passive concentrated learning in the classroom. Thick walls containing seating, storage, display cases and cubbies emphasize separation between the active and passive learning spaces. Bright colors in the circulation spaces creates an active environment while neutral calming colors in the classrooms create focused learning spaces. Shared learning spaces throughout encourage interactive and collaborative learning for students.

Corporate OfficeSummer 2011

Concept:The inspiration for this space comes from leaves on trees and how the more leaves there are the less transparent the space is. Throughout the space there are layers of different materials of different transparency. The amount of transparency creates a hierarchy in the space with the senior partners having the least amount of transparent materials to give them the most privacy. Throughout the space layers of stained glass and translucent glass create privacy.

Concept:The character concept of this project was based off of the clients love for hiking. They like being able to see different views above, below, and all around from the top of a mountain. The different levels of the space are intended to give you the feeling of hiking up mountain to the resting point at the very top where you can see the beautiful views.

Project Scope:This project is located in Boston MA on Newbury Street. The materials of this space is what creates the essence of the spa. The spa includes massage treatment rooms and storage, employee locker room, pool, whirlpool, steam room, sauna, cold water feature, rest space & juice/tea bar with storage, reception/check-in, men’s locker room, women’s locker room, storage/delivery/utility space, office/support space as well as auxiliary restrooms.

Concept:My inspiration comes from water and the different ways that water moves. Water makes calm, serene and gentle sounds when it moves which is how the space of the wellness spa feels. In the dominant space I have a “water wall” which mimics falling water with panels made of different materials in different places. The materials used throughout the space depict what water looks like when it falls and what it is found with in nature. The reflective ceiling and blue colors throughout the space imitates how water looks while the stone and wood materials imitate the natural materials that water is found with.

The space includes a basement level as well as a mezzanine with stairs going to all levels.

Concept:The structure of this restaurant is based on the shape of the interior of a train cab. The green textures and the garden view on the basement level reflect the park and greenery that is located above the restaurant.
