motivation letterIn the field of interior architecture, I think I would get a lot of practical and esthetical knowledge from Kyoto Institute of Technology. Studying abroad would make me more independent, broaden my understanding of design and increase my potential to work abroad as well as within my native country.

I am also very fond of Japanese culture and the history behind it. Kyoto would be such an inspirational environment for studying abroad. During my stay I would have the chance to learn about Japanese esthetics in everyday life. This will provide inspiration that I can use for my future projects.

I am really interested in Japanese design and how there is a mixture of the old and the new. I enjoy experimenting with colours, structures, surfaces and the different feelings that a space can offer. My goal is to learn how to design and understand functional spaces as well as learning how to communicate with visual and emotional effects.

Kitchen (2011)The brief was to make a user profile and design a practical kitchen for them. This kitchen is for a young couple who enjoy cooking as a social event and host dinner parties. Kitchen is open to the livigroom and the location of the stove makes it possible to participate in conversations while cooking. The Kitchen has a bar/restaurant mood within it. The visualisations have been made using photoshop.

Ollie-Pop stool (2011)Trash design project. As a collabration with Gea Karja, Roosa Riski and Sanna Ritvanen we made an ergonomic seat by using used skateboards. The stool was exhibited in “Trash design”, a recycling furniture/interior exhibition fair in Finland. After receiving good feedback, the Ollie-Pop stool is now on production and for sale.(Photos Unto Rautio)
