For this project our task was to design a small house from the univer-sity security guard. We had an interview with the guard and gathered all the informa-tion needed in order to come up with a design that fulls all the require-ments

The aim of this project was the division of spaces. We were assigned to build a pavilion to stay in for 24 hours, 1:1 scale on the shore located in front of the university campus. The entire shore was lled with crab houses, holes everywhere, and this gave us a theme for our pavilion. Inspired by crab-houses, the main idea concept was” the power to adapt to nature”. - Architecture, space and function.

The elevator is the core that holds the building together with its walls. The walls are uid in character, the stairs are fused with the walls making the walls and stairs one element making the movement to each oor uid. The outer surface is made of glass that makes an invisible façade that makes the building unique.

From the observations and ndings it was noticed that the given site was situated in an area where the buildings have similar t ypologies. The concept of the design was then shaped, large cylinder like structures. Pedestrian path ways, were integrated through -out the site, creating a barrier between the site and the road. Aiming for a greener environment, parking areas are located in the in the east of the site..The site will include other facilities: Library, Café, Gym, Supermarket, Sta housing.

The concept is derived from two main aspects, the shades created by the dierent layers of the mountain and the shade created by a basic form of a tree. The design of our building is based on the dierent layers of the mountain which provide adequate shade. Our main building houses an art gallery / workshop, the basic function of an art gallery is not only providing a space to show work of visual art but also can be used to host artistic activities. The pavilions that are located around our main building have dierent sizes creating a variety of views. The rst aim of our concept is to create a welcoming atmosphere for artists & for visitors which allows them to enjoy the variety of views provided. Our second intention was to create aunique service that is rarely found within the region.

What grabbed my attention in Barka was the utilization of space. There is a strong contrast between alternatingpatches of densely built areas and empty lands. What makes this contrast even stronger is the lack of smoothtransition between them. I can compare this to an archipelago without the smooth transition water provides. The lacks of positive spaces were overshad-owed by the large amount of negative spaces. My aim is develop theurban fabric by making use of the negative spaces.

The aim is to develop the area, and to fulll the needsof the society by creating a balance mix of commecial, residential, and green zone areas. Therefore, Essentialbuildings were added to serve purposes such as shopping, awareness centers, parks and new developments. That includes:- A landmark (sky scraper), that attracts people toBarka, and oers the residents of Barka better jobopportunities.- Addition of residential and commercial areas.- Green zones and outdoor spaces for a better andsmoother transition.

A recession would cause the new developments to seize. Due to this, there can only be a limited number of residential settlements, less outdoor spaces and less transition spaces (pedestrian pathways) in this area. In the recession scenario I decided to keep all commercial zones in order to attract more business.

In the upturn scenario, I concentrated more on the green zones, because with the increase of commercial and residential zones such spaces are crucial to provide a better quality of life. More connection and pedestrian paths were implemented to better connect the new growing spaces.

the best way to experience architecture is by being engaged directly surrounded by the place the longer we draw the more we see the more we inderstand and the more we remember. drawing is a way of commuca-tion, a vehicle of memory of the things that we have observed . the informal sketch like charcter of the drawings is the result of how we precived these structures within time.
